About This Position
The Aviation Instructor/Chief Instructor (AI/CI) reports to the Department Chair of Transportation and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Sandhills Community College FAA Ground Training courses. The AI/ CI is the principle point-of-contact to the FAA for the Sandhills Community College and works closely with the Aviation Program Department Chair on listed aspects of the program. The AI/CI ensures compliance with Title 14 CFR Part 141 regulations, other applicable regulations, and Sandhills Community College policies. The AI/CI instructs in Aviation program courses as assigned and serves as a program advisor to students.

As Sandhills Community College continues to grow and create opportunities and career pathways for students, the potential for developing a Part 141 flight school exists which would require the Chief Instructor to have the following experience IAW 14 CFR 141.35:
(5) For a flight training course leading to a Private Pilot Certificate or rating, a chief instructor must have:
- (a) At lease 1,000 Hours as PIC; and
- (b) Primary flight training experience, acquired as either a CFI or instructor in a military flight training program, or a combination thereof, consisting of at least 2 years and a total of 500f flight hours; or 1,000 flight hours.
- (a) At least 100 hours flight time under actual or simulate instrument conditions;
- (b) At least 1,000 hours PIC; and
- (c) Flight training experience, acquired as either a CFI-I or an instructor in a military pilot flight training program, or a combination thereof, consisting of 2 years and a total of 250 flight hours; or 400 flight hours.

- (b) Flight training experience as either a CFI or military pilot flight training program, or a combination of at lease 3 years and a total of 1,000 flight hours; or 1,500 flight hours.
