MEDICAL CARE AND SUPPORT TO INTER-COLLEGIATE VARSITY ATHLETES:
- Coordinate medical care of intercollegiate student-athletes consistent with the Harvard University Athletic Training Guidelines. Care includes the prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions of injuries and/or illnesses.
- Makes the appropriate decisions regarding therapeutic modalities, therapeutic exercises, manual therapy treatments and return to play.
- Supports assigned varsity teams; handle walk-in care; supports special events as assigned.
- Implements measures to prevent injuries and prepare athletes for practice and competition, including taping, bracing, therapeutic exercise, movement screens, and wearable technology.
- Refers student-athletes to team physicians as appropriate and to implements physicians' instructions regarding management of athletic injuries.
- Communicates professionally and effectively across a large, diverse population including, but not limited to, all student-athletes, fellow staff, athletic training students, physicians, coaches, and other sports medicine umbrella practitioners.
- Must be able to make appropriate decisions regarding the sports medicine emergency action plans and carry out plans for each athletic venue
- Prepares and maintains medical records, including but not limited to the documentation of injury reports, medical treatments, rehabilitation programs, medical referrals, and other medical records.
- Carries out NCAA drug testing per the NCAA Drug Testing Protocol.
- Ability to carry out various administrative responsibilities needed to maintain operational procedures of a Division one athletic training facility as assigned by Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health and Performance.
- Supports the education of fellowship athletic training students through hiring, supervision, education, and mentorship of this program.
- Preceptor towards undergraduate and graduate athletic training students.
- Maintains NATABOC certification; Massachusetts State licensure; and CPR/First Aid certification.
- Adheres to the expectations and professional responsibilities of Harvard University, Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) and the athletic department.
- Employs the standards, practices, and procedures of the Ivy League, National Collegiate Athletic Association and National Athletic Trainer's Association.
- Completes and complies with HUHS training requirements including HIPAA Privacy and Security.
- Reports non-compliance incidents to the supervisor, manager, and/or Compliance Officer.
Basic Qualifications
- Master's degree required
- Valid driver's license
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Required - Must have a Masters degree, in Athletic Training. NATABOC (National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification) is required. Candidates must be eligible for athletic training licensure in the state of Massachusetts. Candidates must maintain certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid. Candidates must meet standards as set forth by Harvard University Health Services credentialing process. Candidates must continue to meet NATABOC and state licensure requirements during their employment.
- Preferred - 2 - 3 years' experience as a certified athletic trainer in inter-collegiate athletics is preferred. Candidates with experience in therapeutic exercise and manual therapy-based skill
- Experience with therapeutic exercise and manual therapy skills are preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, intermediate Excel skills
- Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to work independently

- Harvard University requires a pre-employment reference and background screening.
- Harvard University is unable to provide work authorization and/or visa sponsorship.
- This position has a 90-day orientation and review period.
- Candidates must have the ability to work nights, weekends, and holiday work which is required. Travel is required. A valid drivers' license and ability to drive a vehicle is required. All candidates should be able to lift and move medical equipment and supplies weighing up to 75-100 pounds.
