Job Description

BORDER/ZIPPER SEWER

BASIC FUNCTION

Being a Border/Zipper Sewer includes piecing borders together, running the appropriate welt in them and running zippers in backs, ottomans and pillows to spec. Monday - Thursday, 6:30am - 4:00pm (some overtime)

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Standard operation procedures.
  • Must be able to read ticket and job notes for directions and specifications before sewing.
  • Run zipper and/or border machines
  • Pull borders to remove excess welt cord
  • Thread/re-thread machinery
  • Install rolls of zipper into machinery/attach zipper flies for zipping
  • Exercises care and follow the proper safety procedures to prevent injuries to themselves and their co-workers. May perform other duties/special or non-routine assignments as needed.

  • Sewing machine 5. Screwdriver
  • Scissors 6. Tape Measure
  • Zipper machine 7. Tweezers
  • Border machine

    • RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

    Supervisory Relationships:

    • Reports to Department Supervisor

    Organization Relationships:

    • Works with other sewers on a daily basis as needed. Ability to adapt to a team oriented, production atmosphere is required.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

    High School graduate helpful

    Good Communication Skills – oral and written.

    3+ years’ experience in production upholstery fabric sewing in an upholstered furniture manufacturing environment preferred.
