Job Description

About Our House

At Our House, Inc., we are game changers. Our Atlanta-based nonprofit provides transformative care to end the cycle of homelessness for families through early childhood education, housing services, family advocacy, employment training, and healthcare. Our education programs meet the gold standard, both NAEYC accredited and Quality Rated, and our shelter is the only one of its kind in metro Atlanta designed for homeless families with newborns.

The Role

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer · Status: Full-time, exempt · Location: In office, Atlanta, GA

The Senior Accountant owns the integrity of Our House's general ledger and the accuracy of its financial statements. As one of three members of the finance team, you will lead the monthly and year-end close, prepare financial statements for the CFO, lead audit preparation and federal grant compliance, and review the work of the Accountant. You will also serve as the CFO's backup for financial operations.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the month-end and year-end close and deliver closed books to the CFO on schedule.
  • Prepare complex journal entries and reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, variance analysis, and organization-wide budget-to-actual reports and cash flow projections.
  • Determine revenue recognition and donor restrictions for new funder agreements, and set billing and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure grant spending meets federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and state and local funder requirements.
  • Lead the annual financial audit and Single Audit, and coordinate Form 990 preparation.
  • Review and approve the Accountant's journal entries, grant reconciliations, and receivables before close.
  • Maintain internal controls and document accounting procedures for a small finance team.

What You Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle general ledger, month-end close, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Experience preparing financial statements and audit work papers
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards (ASC 958), and federal Uniform Guidance
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations)

Preferred

  • Nonprofit experience with government grants
  • QuickBooks experience, including class or fund tracking

Schedule and Requirements

  • In office, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday during standard business hours
