Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Webflow Systems Lead based in Netherlands.
Join a fully remote, international digital team building scalable web experiences and technology systems for ambitious B2B software businesses. In this senior freelance role, you will lead the technical architecture of a multi-site marketing ecosystem spanning three websites, creating a reusable and governed foundation rather than isolated web pages. You will design component libraries, relational content models, and AI-ready workflows that empower marketing teams to manage their digital presence independently. Working closely with designers, developers, and client stakeholders, you will translate Figma design systems into robust Webflow implementations while ensuring performance, accessibility, and security. You will also shape integrations, search capabilities, and AI-agent governance, helping establish new standards for efficient website management. This opportunity combines technical leadership, hands-on development, and mentoring within a collaborative, remote-first environment.
- Architect and maintain a scalable Webflow system across three websites, including reusable components, properties, variants, slots, design tokens, variables, naming conventions, and clearly defined boundaries between native functionality and custom code.
- Collaborate with UI designers from the early stages of the design process, reviewing Figma components and variables to ensure technical feasibility and translating design systems into efficient Webflow structures.
- Design and implement a relational CMS architecture connecting products, ecosystems, integrations, use cases, personas, and resources, ensuring the content model works consistently across all three websites.
- Establish an AI-ready development environment by configuring Webflow's Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, developing agent instructions and reusable skills, and defining clear permissions and safeguards governing what AI agents can create or modify.
- Define technical requirements for integrations between the websites and client products, collaborating with client-side developers and reviewing implementations for performance, security, and reliability.
- Develop or oversee custom React components for interactive tools, including product finders and assessments, and implement a cross-site Algolia search solution with an appropriate indexing strategy, shared taxonomy, and relevance ranking.
- Establish governance and publishing workflows that define what marketing teams and AI agents can change, how updates are reviewed, and how changes are approved and released.
- Document the system architecture, workflows, and operating guidelines, and collaborate on training and handover to enable non-technical marketing teams to manage the websites independently.
- Review other developers' work, provide technical guidance and constructive feedback, and maintain consistent standards for code quality, accessibility, performance, and maintainability.
- Identify platform limitations and evolving Webflow capabilities, make informed architectural trade-offs, and continuously improve the system based on real-world usage and emerging requirements.
- At least 5 years of professional web development experience, including 3 or more years of advanced Webflow experience focused on system architecture, reusable component libraries, and complex CMS implementations rather than individual page builds.
- Demonstrated experience architecting a component-based Webflow system and designing a relational content model for a large website or multi-site environment.
- Proven ability to hand over a structured website system to a non-technical marketing team that can operate and maintain it independently after implementation.
- Practical experience with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and a production-deployed large language model (LLM) integration or AI-agent workflow, including the design of prompts, instructions, permissions, and safeguards.
- Strong working knowledge of Webflow and Figma, including the ability to interpret Figma components and variables and translate them into scalable, Webflow-native implementations.
- Proficiency in JavaScript and React for building custom code components, alongside familiarity with the Webflow Data API, webhooks, REST APIs, Git, and Node.js.
- Experience with Algolia or a comparable search platform, ideally involving multi-index or federated search architectures.
- Strong understanding of web performance, accessibility standards such as WCAG, security principles, API key management, authentication, and data privacy.
- The technical judgement to determine when native Webflow functionality is appropriate and when custom development is necessary, balancing flexibility, maintainability, performance, and security.
- A portfolio of live projects demonstrating substantial technical ownership, including system architecture, custom code, integrations, or AI-powered workflows. You should be able to explain your architectural decisions, collaboration process, and key trade-offs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a willingness to document technical decisions, share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and work constructively with designers and developers.
- Fluency in English, as all internal and client communication is conducted in English.
- Experience building shared component libraries across multiple websites, working with Webflow Localization, or developing reusable animation systems using GSAP or Webflow Interactions is an advantage.
- Experience creating AI-agent skills for tools such as Claude or ChatGPT, or mentoring junior developers, is also beneficial.
- A systems-oriented, accountable, and collaborative mindset, with the confidence to make technical decisions independently while remaining transparent about platform limitations and evolving capabilities.
- Competitive freelance compensation: B2B engagement with a monthly rate of €3,500–€5,500, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Six-month contract: A full-time freelance engagement offering the opportunity to lead a substantial technical architecture project.
- Fully remote working: Work from anywhere in Europe, with working hours aligned to European time zones.
- International collaboration: Work with a distributed team of more than 30 professionals across strategy, design, development, and technology.
- Technical ownership: Take responsibility for the architecture of a sophisticated multi-site Webflow ecosystem and influence key decisions around AI-assisted development.
- Professional development: Expand your expertise in Webflow systems architecture, AI-agent workflows, integrations, search infrastructure, and scalable digital platforms.
- Cross-functional teamwork: Collaborate closely with designers, developers, and client stakeholders, contributing to solutions that combine design quality with technical excellence.
- Mentoring and leadership: Guide another Webflow developer, review implementations, and help establish development standards and best practices.
- Meaningful project impact: Build a reusable digital foundation that enables a B2B software marketing team to manage and scale its websites with greater autonomy.
- Inclusive culture: Join a team that values diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences and is committed to equal opportunities.
