Vehicle Technician (Engineering-Focused Fleet Operations)
Location: San Francisco, CA
Job Type: Full-Time | Contract
Pay Rate: $46.00–$50.00/hour
Work Environment: In-Person
About the role
We are looking to hire an experienced Vehicle Technician to support fleet readiness, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair operations.
This role is ideal for an engineering-focused automotive technician with strong mechanical and diagnostic experience who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented workshop environment. You will help ensure fleet vehicles are safe, operational, and ready for on-road testing and demonstrations.
Available Shifts
First Shift
- Sunday–Thursday | 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
- Tuesday–Saturday | 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
- Thursday–Monday | 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
Second Shift
- Tuesday–Saturday | 2:00 PM–10:30 PM
- Thursday–Monday | 2:00 PM–10:30 PM
- Saturday–Wednesday | 2:00 PM–10:30 PM
Key Responsibilities
- Perform vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and fleet reworks
- Configure, test, and sign off vehicles for safe on-road operation
- Conduct preventative maintenance and scheduled service inspections
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and vehicle system issues
- Escalate complex technical issues to engineering teams when needed
- Coordinate repairs from diagnosis through resolution
- Develop and execute diagnostic test plans
- Maintain detailed service documentation and quality reports
- Support fleet readiness for testing and demonstrations
- Organize shop tools, equipment, and workspaces
- Assist with inventory management, parts organization, and logistics
- Travel locally as needed to support fleet operations
Required Qualifications
- 2–4+ years of automotive technician or fleet maintenance experience
- Strong knowledge of automotive repair methods, tools, diagnostics, and vehicle systems
- Experience performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass background check, MVR check, and drug screening
- Forklift and/or gantry operation experience required
- Current forklift certification compliant with Cal/OSHA standards
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and self-motivated team player
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in automotive engineering labs, research environments, Dyno labs, or battery testing facilities
- Knowledge of CAN bus systems, wiring diagrams, and soldering
- Experience towing trailers or transporting fleet vehicles
- Technical trade school certification or Associate Degree in Automotive Technology
- Ability to travel locally and occasionally nationally
