Pay: $75/hr - $80/hr

We are currently seeking to hire an Aerial Specialist at our Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, CA facility to provide senior-level Aerial Target O&M, In-Service Engineering, and Life-Cycle Logistics Support to the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, Pacific Target and Marine Operations (PTMO) Division. This role requires more than 20 years of military and DoD aviation experience, including expert-level technical knowledge of BQM-177, BQM-34, and BQM-74 aerial target systems, in-service engineering, and depot-level maintenance.
In this capacity, you will serve as a vital technical and logistical liaison between US Government program offices (PMA-208, TPO), fleet operations, and company leadership, with the ability to operate with complete independence and authority within the field. The primary duties of this position typically include (but are not limited to) providing expert, senior-level support in any one of or combination of the following areas:
- BQM-177 Fleet Support Liaison & Site Operations: Function as a primary BQM-177 Fleet Support Liaison, providing technical and logistical coordination between the US Government Integrated Product Teams (IPT), PMA-208, the Technical Program Office (TPO), and company leadership. Assist in standing up, outfitting, and supporting dispersed operating sites (such as NAWCAD Det Norfolk, PMRF, and PMRF Det Okinawa) with critical training, equipment, and technical information.
- Travel & Deployment Support: Support TPO travel obligations (including Detachments, Operations, etc.) as requested. Plan, coordinate, and execute Ship Suitability Tests on multiple naval surface platforms (e.g., T-AKE, ESB, LCS) to determine unique logistical and operational launch/recovery requirements of shipboard operations.
- Depot-Level Repairs & Maintenance Support: Assist in performing scheduled, unscheduled, intermediate, and depot-level repairs on aerial targets at Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW) and other operating sites as requested. Utilize advanced composite and engine-run repair experience to repair air vehicles in-house and optimize fleet readiness.
- Engineering Investigations & Technical Support: Support engineering investigations (EI) to determine root cause analyses of failures, utilizing troubleshooting, electrical systems tests, functional tests, and engine runs. Provide expert engineering and technical support to the US Government IPT for new target equipment, including target electrical subsystems, test equipment, and external stores.
- Support Equipment Development & Innovation: Spearhead the design, development, testing, and deployment of unique, non-OEM target support equipment and test fixtures (such as stand-alone engine run stands, No-Volts Testers, HI-POT test kits, and Servo-Valve test aids) to simplify vehicle turnaround and improve troubleshooting capabilities.
- Technical Bulletins & Directives Incorporation: Support operating sites with the tracking, oversight, and incorporation of factory bulletins, tech memos, Technical Directives (TD), and Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) to ensure that all aircraft and support equipment are kept technically compliant and safe.
- JDRS, TPDR & PQDR Management: Oversee and track Technical Publication Deficiency Reports (TPDR) and Product Quality Deficiency Reports (PQDR) using the Joint Deficiency Reporting System (JDRS) to ensure that technical and operational manual deficiencies are accurately corrected.
- Manual Source Data & Publication Review: Perform comprehensive reviews, verifications, and validations of manual source data and technical publications for both existing and new aerial target platforms to ensure accuracy, safety, and relevance.
Additional duties may include (but not be limited to):
- Training & Documentation Generation: Support the generation of maintenance training documentation, including training plans, system familiarization guides, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Maintenance Training & Subordinate Development: Support maintenance and technical training (such as the Advanced Skills Management training system) at operating sites, and assist in developing and training subordinates, fleet support, junior engineers, or replacements as needed.
- Warehouse & Inventory Control Support: Assist with TPO warehouse management, including kit/payload inventory control, tracking material issues, material shipping/receiving, and forecasting requirements based on scheduled operations.
Work Conditions:
- Conditions will vary, however, most work performed in enclosed buildings.
- Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching.
- Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
- Currently 9/80 work schedule (Mon – Thurs 9 hours, alternating Friday off, the other Friday is an 8-hrs. work day).
- Moderate mission-related travel.
Education/Experience/Skills:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 20+ years of military and DoD aviation experience, including expert-level technical knowledge of BQM-177, BQM-34, and BQM-74 aerial target systems, in-service engineering, and depot-level maintenance.
- Minimum of 20+ years of experience working with aviation logistics.
- Expert-level understanding of all Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Read and understand schematical drawings.
- Technical writing skills to assist in documenting new manufacturing and/or assembling instructions for new designs developed in-house.
- Ability to independently plan & support efforts including timelines, possible cost estimates requiring parts and equipment, shipping & travel arrangements and coordination with the end user.
- Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
- U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain an interim U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to starting and a final Secret clearance within 90 days of hire date and maintain your clearance throughout your employment.
- All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
