Responsibilities

The Imaging Tech Assistant supports imaging technologists by preparing patients, maintaining equipment and exam rooms, and assisting with imaging procedures to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. This role contributes to patient safety, access, and operational reliability by adhering to regulatory standards and supporting workflow in the imaging department. Performs other duties as assigned. All job responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.

Required Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Work Experience

  • At least one year of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in radiology or imaging services.

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Ability to follow instructions and protocols
  • Basic computer and data entry skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA standards
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to safely assist with patient transfers and positioning
  • Familiarity with infection control and safety procedures

Essential Functions

  • Escorts and transports patients to and from imaging areas, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Assists patients with positioning and transferring onto examination tables as directed by technologists.
  • Prepares imaging rooms and equipment for procedures, ensuring cleanliness and readiness.
  • Assists technologists during imaging procedures by handling equipment, supplies, and contrast materials under supervision.
  • Conducts preliminary screenings, such as MRI safety checks, to confirm patient readiness for imaging.
  • Verifies physician orders and obtains patient histories as directed.
  • Schedules and coordinates imaging appointments and manages routine clerical tasks.
  • Maintains accurate patient documentation and assists with data entry in electronic health records.
  • Monitors and reports equipment malfunctions or supply shortages to appropriate staff.
  • Adheres to infection control, radiation safety, and organizational policies at all times.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of imaging areas, including stocking supplies.
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies and assists with patient care within scope of training.

Competencies

  • Employee has basic knowledge of radiation safety
  • Employee demonstrates understanding of the usage of equipment
  • Employee demonstrates proper patient identification
  • Employee demonstrates consistent hand hygiene practices


Qualifications
  • Completion of coursework in medical terminology or anatomy and physiology; enrollment in or completion of an accredited radiologic technology program.
  • Experience with patient care, medical office procedures, or imaging equipment.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant or completion of related medical courses.
