Lexus is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced DMV / Title Clerk to join our administrative team. This position is ideal for an individual with automotive dealership experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in maintaining compliance, accuracy, and exceptional internal and external customer service.
The DMV / Title Clerk is responsible for processing vehicle registrations, title transfers, licensing documentation, and related administrative functions while ensuring compliance with California DMV regulations, lender requirements, and dealership policies.
The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism. Additionally, this position will support both Lexus Carlsbad and Lexus Escondido.
Requirements:Essential Responsibilities
- Process all new and used vehicle registrations, title transfers, and DMV transactions accurately and timely.
- Complete and submit DMV registration paperwork in compliance with California regulations.
- Verify the legal transfer of ownership documents submitted to the Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Accurately document vehicle owner, registration, and title information on required DMV forms.
- Ensure tax, title, and registration documents are completed promptly and correctly.
- Process vehicle titles, payoff requests, duplicate titles, and title corrections.
- Maintain vehicle inventory records, including new vehicle information and wholesale purchase and sale transactions.
- Monitor pending DMV transactions and resolve outstanding issues promptly.
- Research and resolve registration, title, funding, and documentation discrepancies.
- Post accounting entries related to DMV, title, registration, and wholesale transactions.
- Maintain and reconcile title schedules and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with sales, finance, accounting personnel, customers, lenders, and government agencies to obtain required documentation.
- Maintain accurate title files and registration records.
- Assist with audits and provide supporting documentation as requested.
- Promptly and professionally answer incoming and internal calls.
- Protect the confidentiality of customer and dealership information.
- Support additional administrative and accounting functions as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of automotive dealership DMV and title processing experience preferred.
- Automotive title and registration experience required.
- Strong knowledge of California DMV regulations and registration procedures.
- Experience processing retail, lease, wholesale, and out-of-state transactions.
- Experience using dealership management software preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage deadlines effectively.
- Professional customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Experience in DMV Desk/ VITU preferred
- Experience in Tekion preferred
