Job Description

Position Profile

HOV Medical Directors (MD, DO) provide holistic, comprehensive medical care to hospice and palliative care patients in both the home and facility settings, with likely collaboration with local health care systems.

Responsibilities

§ Collaborates with inter-disciplinary team in providing ongoing patient care, medical oversight and support to team members.

§ Develops and maintains therapeutic relationships.

§ Conducts comprehensive assessments.

§ Reviews/approves certification/recertification of terminal illness for Medicare beneficiaries.

§ Provides effective pain/symptom assessment and management.

§ Promotes patient safety.

§ Facilitates smooth transition between care environments.

§ Provides effective patient/family/caregiver/caregiver teaching.

§ Supports the death/dying process.

§ Manages end-of-life ethical issues effectively.

§ Creates timely and accurate documentation.

§ Utilizes resources effectively and efficiently.

§ Maintains and enhances professional skills.

§ Adheres to high standards of personal and professional conduct.

Minimum Qualifications

§ Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy who is legally authorized to practice medicine in the State of Arizona.

§ Minimum three years experience in the practice of medicine.

§ Experience in the psychological, psychosocial and medical aspects of terminally ill patients.

§ Expertise in pain and symptom management.

§ Demonstrated understanding of hospice philosophy.
