Summary
The Controls Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, programming, and maintaining electrical control systems, boiler and burner controls, combustion equipment, and related industrial and commercial systems. This position requires advanced technical expertise in reading, interpreting, and modifying electrical schematics, diagnosing equipment issues, and providing exceptional customer service. The Controls Technician works independently to ensure equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, and accurate service documentation while maintaining company tools and equipment.
This is a full-time, hourly position. Hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM; Saturdays as needed
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain electrical control systems, burner controls, boiler controls, combustion equipment, and related systems.
- Read, interpret, modify, and troubleshoot electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions and implement timely and effective corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and company safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Complete repair and service orders accurately and within established deadlines.
- Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction through professional and responsive service.
- Communicate technical findings and equipment recommendations clearly to customers and management.
- Provide customers with instruction and guidance regarding the proper operation and maintenance of installed equipment.
- Document labor hours, materials used, service details, and job costs accurately on work orders and time records.
- Assist management with technical support, project coordination, and operational initiatives as needed.
- Promote company services and identify opportunities to provide additional value to customers.
- Properly handle and dispose of waste materials, scrap, and byproducts in accordance with environmental and safety requirements.
- Requisition supplies, equipment, and materials needed to complete assigned work.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ensure all materials and equipment used on service calls are properly accounted for and charged.
- Participate in ongoing training programs to maintain technical proficiency and stay current with industry developments.
- Maintain company-owned vehicles, tools, equipment, and inventory in accordance with company policies and manufacturer recommendations.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency service calls as required.
Requirements:
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience using AutoCAD
- Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Controls Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with electrical controls systems, combustion equipment, boiler controls, burner management systems, or a related technical field.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical troubleshooting, control circuits, instrumentation, and industrial equipment.
- Experience servicing commercial and industrial customers preferred.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required per company policy.
- Ability to obtain security clearances necessary to work in schools, state facilities, federal facilities, and other secured customer locations.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and use hands to handle tools and equipment. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with assistance. The position requires working in confined spaces, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other industrial environments. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The work environment includes commercial, industrial, institutional, educational, and government facilities. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, varying temperatures, noise, dust, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required. The position requires travel to customer locations and participation in an on-call rotation.
