Senior Staff Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer based in Brazil.

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you will shape architectural direction and solve complex, ambiguous engineering challenges across multiple Enterprise product and platform domains. You will operate beyond the scope of a single team while focusing your technical leadership on enterprise-scale initiatives and evolving customer needs. The role combines deep engineering expertise, architectural judgment, and strong business acumen to build scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable systems. You will work closely with Engineering, Product, Design, and business leaders to turn strategic priorities into durable technical roadmaps. Your influence will extend through mentorship, engineering standards, architectural guidance, and the adoption of modern development practices. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a collaborative, global, and highly technical environment while helping teams balance immediate delivery with long-term platform health.

Accountabilities:
  • Define and drive long-term technical strategy and architectural direction across multiple Enterprise engineering domains, ensuring solutions align with business priorities and future growth.
  • Design, prototype, and guide the implementation of highly complex, scalable, secure, resilient, and fault-tolerant software systems.
  • Lead critical technical initiatives from discovery through delivery, connecting architecture and execution to measurable business and customer outcomes.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, Design, and business stakeholders to translate strategic priorities into technical roadmaps, architectural recommendations, and investment decisions.
  • Identify systemic architectural risks, performance limitations, reliability concerns, and scalability challenges, developing durable solutions that strengthen overall platform health.
  • Establish and continuously improve engineering standards, architectural patterns, development practices, quality expectations, and technical guardrails across teams.
  • Lead architecture and design reviews, helping teams navigate trade-offs across delivery speed, scalability, security, cost, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Mentor senior engineers through technical coaching, knowledge sharing, architectural guidance, and support on complex engineering decisions.
  • Develop approaches and best practices for AI-assisted software development and automation, promoting responsible adoption while improving engineering quality and productivity.
  • Influence engineering culture by modeling accountability, pragmatic decision-making, collaboration, continuous improvement, and thoughtful technical leadership.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant responsibility for architecture and technical direction of complex production systems.
  • Deep expertise in modern software architecture, distributed systems, microservices, system design, data modeling, APIs, and cloud-native application development.
  • Extensive experience designing, building, coding, and operating high-throughput, scalable, secure, reliable, and fault-tolerant production applications.
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP, modern databases, service-oriented architectures, containerization, observability, automated testing, CI, and CD.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical strategy and align architectural direction across multiple engineering teams and stakeholder groups.
  • Strong judgment when evaluating trade-offs involving system performance, reliability, security, cost, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Experience building or evolving B2B SaaS, vertical SaaS, or comparable platforms that serve increasingly sophisticated customer segments and Enterprise-scale requirements.
  • Proven experience establishing AI-assisted development strategies, practices, and guardrails that improve developer efficiency, engineering quality, and responsible automation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Exceptional technical judgment and the ability to create clarity in ambiguous environments with evolving requirements and constraints.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Pragmatic, product-oriented mindset with the ability to balance technical excellence, customer value, and business impact.
  • Strong influencing and stakeholder-management skills, with a proven ability to lead complex initiatives without relying on direct authority.
  • Commitment to mentoring engineers, sharing knowledge, and raising technical standards across an organization.
  • Intellectual curiosity, resilience, and the ability to quickly develop expertise across unfamiliar systems, technologies, and business domains.
Benefits:
  • Compensation starting at $9,000 USD per month.
  • Remote work flexibility while being based in Brazil.
  • Paid holidays and flexible scheduled time off that can be taken as needed.
  • A MacBook provided from day one to support your work.
  • $500 workspace stipend to help create an effective home-office environment.
  • Equity participation in a rapidly growing, venture-backed organization.
  • Opportunity to work on complex, enterprise-scale technology challenges with significant technical ownership and influence.
  • A collaborative, inclusive environment that values innovation, big ideas, mentorship, and continuous professional growth.
  • Exposure to modern engineering practices, AI-assisted development, automation, cloud technologies, and large-scale distributed systems.
  • Global collaboration with teammates across multiple countries and cultures.
  • Updated resume translated into English is required for consideration.
  • Applicants must currently reside in Brazil and provide an active LinkedIn profile.
