POSITION SUMMARY

The Equipment Operator supports the daily maintenance of the golf course and common grounds to the standards expected of a private upscale golf club. This position performs a variety of mowing, landscaping, bunker, and general grounds-maintenance duties while learning the safe and proper use of department equipment and machinery.

Working under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, and 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, the Equipment Operator is expected to complete assigned work accurately, support department goals, maintain a clean and safe work environment, and provide courteous service to members, residents, and fellow team members.

As proficiency is demonstrated in basic duties, the Equipment Operator may receive training and exposure to more advanced golf course maintenance tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Golf Course Maintenance & Grounds Care

• Mow lawns, approaches, fairways, tees, and slopes as directed.

• Rake bunkers and maintain bunker edges and surrounding areas.

• Plant and maintain trees, shrubbery, flowers, and hedges as directed.

• Install and maintain pine straw as directed.

• Maintain landscape beds through edging, weed control, and related upkeep.

• Use weed eaters, edgers, and related equipment to maintain traps, paths, landscape areas, and other assigned areas.

• Perform additional golf course maintenance duties and other job-related tasks as assigned.

Equipment, Safety & Work Standards

• Learn and follow the safety features and proper operating procedures for all machinery and equipment used.

• Clean tools and equipment after use and maintain them in an orderly condition.

• Support and follow all department safety programs and established life/safety procedures.

• Participate in employee training and development designed to promote safe work practices and reduce liability.

• Use department training processes and flow charts to support accurate and consistent work performance.

• Maintain a clean, healthy, and safe working environment in accordance with department standards, OSHA requirements, and applicable local authority standards.

Teamwork, Service & Environmental Responsibility

• Work as directed by the Assistant and 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.

• Coordinate with the Golf Course Superintendent team, Equipment Manager, and fellow staff members to complete daily work activities.

• Support Spring Run’s customer service culture and department goals through a proactive, team-oriented approach.

• Communicate professionally and courteously with members, residents, and staff.

• Attend meetings and training sessions as appropriately directed.

• Support the Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary program and the department’s environmental responsibility and cleanliness standards.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Ability and willingness to learn basic golf course maintenance tasks and progress to more advanced duties as proficiency is demonstrated.

• Flexible availability required, including weekends and holidays. May be required to return to the job site at unusual hours during emergency situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Prolonged standing and walking throughout the workday.

• Frequent bending, stooping, and other physical movement associated with golf course maintenance.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

TOOLS, EQUIPMENT & SOFTWARE USED

• Golf course mowing equipment used for lawns, approaches, fairways, tees, and slopes.

• Weed eaters, edgers, and related landscape maintenance equipment.

• Hand tools and equipment used for planting, bunker maintenance, landscape-bed care, and general grounds maintenance.

• Other golf course maintenance machinery and equipment assigned by department leadership.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
