This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Capital Project Management based in the United States.
This is a senior leadership opportunity focused on the delivery of strategic, high-value capital investments across a global manufacturing and supply network. The role oversees major projects from early planning and investment approval through construction, commissioning, qualification, start-up, and transition to operations. You will shape technical solutions, establish project structures, coordinate resources, and drive strong governance across complex initiatives. Working with internal teams, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders, you will ensure projects align with business objectives, quality expectations, and delivery commitments. The position also contributes to global standards, benchmarking, continuous improvement, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role requiring relocation to the active project site and travel based on business needs.
Lead assigned strategic capital investments across the full project lifecycle, from front-end planning and definition through execution, commissioning, qualification, start-up, and operational transition.
Develop, review, and present Capital Project Appropriations, serving as a key representative to capital investment committees and ensuring projects are appropriately structured and resourced.
Establish project governance, resource plans, delivery strategies, and required capabilities while maintaining strong safety, quality, cost, schedule, and performance standards.
Lead major capital construction and engineering initiatives in collaboration with internal stakeholders, external contractors, suppliers, vendors, and regulatory or government agencies.
Apply project controls, performance management, benchmarking, risk management, and contracting strategies to improve project outcomes and identify opportunities for optimization.
Lead or support technical peer reviews across the broader capital portfolio and contribute to post-implementation reviews that strengthen project management practices and systems.
Champion communities of practice, working groups, task forces, and other forums that promote knowledge sharing and consistency across sites and global teams.
Develop and implement global capital project standards, processes, tools, and best practices that improve efficiency, quality, and delivery consistency.
Coach and mentor project professionals and site resources, supporting technical development, career growth, competency improvement, and knowledge transfer.
Collaborate across geographically dispersed teams and functions to maintain alignment, resolve complex challenges, and continuously improve capital project execution.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline is required; an advanced degree such as an MBA is preferred.
At least 14 years of progressively responsible experience spanning engineering and design, capital project installation, commissioning and qualification, and vertical start-up.
Demonstrated experience serving as a Capital Project Manager throughout the full project lifecycle.
At least 8 years of experience managing major capital projects with total project costs in the range of approximately $100M–$250M.
Strong hands-on experience negotiating and managing contracts and agreements with suppliers, contractors, vendors, regulatory bodies, and government agencies.
Deep knowledge of project controls, construction law, risk management, and contracting strategies such as EPC and EPCM.
Strong understanding of project performance management and benchmarking, with the ability to assess performance, identify improvement opportunities, implement best practices, and provide strategic recommendations.
Experience with life sciences quality standards, including GMP, and global regulatory requirements such as FDA and EMA is strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of environmental, health, and safety requirements is preferred.
Experience leading or collaborating with geographically dispersed teams is preferred.
Excellent English-language communication skills, including writing, speaking, and comprehension.
Strong leadership, stakeholder management, communication, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
Ability to work effectively across complex, cross-functional environments and influence stakeholders at multiple levels.
Willingness and ability to relocate to the active project location for the duration of the assignment; this is an onsite position rather than a remote role.
Ability to travel domestically according to project and business requirements, with occasional international travel generally lasting less than one week.
