Position Overview
The Banquet Captain plays a key role in delivering The Medallion Club experience during banquet events, tournaments, and private functions. This position ensures seamless event execution by leading service staff, maintaining a member focused environment, and upholding the club’s high standards of hospitality. The ideal candidate is attentive, organized, and committed to service excellence.
Essential Responsibilities
- Execute banquet and tournament events according to Banquet Event Orders and the Director of Catering’s specifications.
- Lead and support service staff in event preparation, ensuring all team members present a polished, professional image and proper uniform.
- Oversee room setup, including tables, chairs, linens, table settings, glassware, and event‑specific layouts.
- Ensure all event spaces, including restrooms, remain clean, stocked, and guest‑ready throughout service.
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff regarding menus, timelines, and event details to ensure smooth coordination.
- Maintain a warm, welcoming atmosphere for members and guests, ensuring their comfort and satisfaction at all times.
- Support a culture of teamwork, safety, and hospitality while upholding club standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; specialty or technical training preferred.
- 2–3 years of experience in the service industry, ideally in catering or banquet operations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with members, guests, and team members.
- Proven customer service skills with the ability to resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally.
- Must be of legal age to serve alcoholic beverages; applicable state certifications required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, multitask, and prioritize in a fast‑paced environment.
- Understanding of food preparation basics, food safety, sanitation standards, and bar terminology.
- Ability to operate banquet‑related equipment including ovens, hot boxes, coffee machines, soda dispensers, dishwashers, beer taps, and more.
- Basic math, reading, and writing skills; fluent in English.
- Food Handler Certification and Alcohol Server Certification required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to speak and hear clearly.
- Close and distance vision required.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and extended periods of movement.
- Ability to walk long distances as needed during events.
- Frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Regular use of manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and bi‑manual coordination.
- Ability to reach, kneel, and stoop repeatedly.
