The Michigan Milk Producers Association is a dairy farmer owned cooperative and dairy processor. Founded in 1916, the MMPA serves dairy farmers in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin. MMPA maintains a strong presence within the dairy industry with strategic business relationships through a variety of channels like processing shelf-stable, value added dairy products. MMPA has five member owned processing plants in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio, including Superior Dairy and the Middlebury Cheese Company. Products made at MMPA’s plants include fluid milk, cheese, ultrafiltered milk, cottage cheese, ice cream, butter, nonfat dry milk, cream and condensed skim milk.

Job Summary:
Direct the on-shift maintenance team to maximize the plant operations. This includes on-shift maintenance accountability for automation controls, receiving, processing, load outs, evaporation, drying, butter production, facilities, HVAC systems. This position focuses on managing the day-to-day activities of the on-shift maintenance team. This position will report directly to the Maintenance Manager.
Maintenance Supervisor’s Responsibilities:
- Supervising and leading all maintenance processes and operations on shiftWork closely with Plant Engineering and Maintenance Manager to troubleshoot, improve and maintain the current operating facilityLead on-shift maintenance team through difficult downtime events to include prioritizing critical downtime activities and managing all work orders through the shiftInspect all machinery to ensure it is in a working standardAssist in creating and implementing maintenance proceduresConduct regular inspections of the facilities to detect and resolve problemsAssist with implementing and maintaining training for maintenance team to continue to grow. Training activities to include electrical and mechanical systems training and growth in control systems trouble shootingPlanning and managing all repair and installation activitiesEnsuring all department workers adhere to the safety policies and proceduresManage and validate performance of a rigorous preventative maintenance programPreparing daily progress reports and maintenance logsOverseeing equipment stock and placing orders for new supplies when necessaryResponsible for maintaining spare parts usage and inventory for all on shift activitiesAbility to manage contractors working in the facility
Maintenance Supervisor’s Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualificationsBachelor’s degree in a mechanical or electrical discipline (preferred)Lead from the Front Mentality – Shop Floor management is a requirementMust be competent with CMMS systems, Supervisory control systems, Controls Logic and other programs that are specific to work environmentStrong aptitude of automation, automation controls and control logicA minimum of 5 years experience in maintenanceGood understanding of the technical features of plumbing, electrical systems, mechanical systems, vacuum, and pressure systemsTechnical experience with industrial refrigeration and boilers systems are recommendedExcellent organizational and leadership abilitiesStrong communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Demands:
- Ability to be on your feet for long periods of timeLarge facility which requires extensive walkingRepetitive Stairs: Equipment extends to 10–12 stories and will require frequent trips during inspections and maintenance events
