Department Overview
The Department of Pediatrics is recruiting for a Research Assistant.
Function/Duties of PositionThe purpose of this position is to conduct supervised research in the lab of Dr. Bret Pearson, using zebrafish to study adult stem cell biology, brain cancer stem cells, and neural regeneration. All of these topics are unified by the field of developmental biology and we use common molecular biology techniques, live-imaging, genetics, and single-cell genomics to study these processes. We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Assistant who has extensive experience using zebrafish to study molecular biological questions. In addition to the technical aspects of the job and a keen eye for details, this position will be integral to the lab culture and work ethic going. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with major courses in field of research OR Associate's AND 3 years of relevant experience OR 4 years of relevant experience OR Equivalent combination of training and experience.
- MS Excel, MS Word, and common software.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree with major courses in field of research and 3 years of relevant experience with molecular biology using model organisms
- Advanced Degree cell biology, molecular biology, or genetics
- Experience using model organisms to study cell and developmental biology.
- Experience with common molecular staining and cloning techniques is essential.
- Zebrafish and related husbandry.
- Ability to use R to manipulate next generation genomic data.
- Familiarity with Linux.
