About the Role/Unit:
The Nursing Practice Specialist (NPS) at Sinai Hospital serves as a clinical leader responsible for advancing evidence-based nursing practice, outcomes improvement, and professional development across acute care at Sinai Hospital. Operating under limited supervision, this role integrates clinical evidence and performance data to guide nursing decision-making, policy development, and clinical initiatives. The NPS partners with unit leaders, interprofessional teams, and system stakeholders to promote high-quality care delivery, optimize nursing-sensitive indicators, ensure regulatory survey readiness, and sustain a culture of nursing empowerment and accountability throughout LifeBridge Health.
Key Responsibilities:
Evidence-Based Nursing Practice Support
- Translates current clinical literature and research findings into actionable nursing practice, policy, and formal procedure updates.
- Guides unit-level and hospital-wide teams in adopting evidence-based interventions specifically designed to improve patient outcomes.
- Facilitates the dissemination of clinical best practices through targeted presentations, clinical education, and direct mentorship.
- Supports professional nursing practice through mentorship and leadership in a culture of shared accountability and decision-making.
Data Analysis & Outcomes Ownership
- Analyzes hospital- and unit-specific quality, safety, and performance data to identify clinical trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Develops, implements, and monitors formal outcome metrics related directly to nursing-sensitive indicators and patient care standards.
- Provides objective, data-driven insights to guide frontline nursing practice improvements and executive clinical decision-making.
- Partners with unit leadership to establish and maintain strict accountability for measurable clinical and operational outcomes.
- Leads and manages site-specific projects focused on nursing practice, quality improvement, and outcomes enhancement from inception to evaluation, aligning local unit initiatives with system-wide strategic goals.
Clinical Practice Support & Survey Readiness
- Conducts structured clinical rounds on assigned units to assess practice standards, identify workflow barriers, and provide real-time consultation, bedside coaching, and actionable feedback to frontline professionals.
- Serves as a clinical mentor and professional coach to frontline professionals, promoting critical thinking, continuous learning, and engagement in shared governance, research, and innovation activities.
- Maintains up-to-date awareness of current regulatory and accreditation standards governing acute care nursing practice.
- Partners with unit leaders to ensure continuous compliance and preparedness for internal and external regulatory surveys through mock surveys, tracer activities, and readiness reviews.
- Leads or assists in post-survey action planning, implementation, and follow-up to sustain long-term compliance and quality performance.
Requirements:
- Education: MSN required
- Licensure: Maryland Registered Nurse License
- Certification: American Heart Association BLS Certification & Specialty certification
- Experience: 3-5 years in clinical nursing with demonstrated experience in evidence-based practice, quality improvement or professional development
