Job Description
Are you passionate about student health and wellness? Join our team as a School Health Technician and play a critical role in providing care and support to students across Bay County schools. In this position, you will assist with day-to-day health services, including administering medications, providing first aid, supporting health screenings, and responding to student health needs. Working under the supervision of licensed medical professionals and in collaboration with PanCare of Florida, you will help ensure a safe, healthy, and responsive school environment for all students.
Position Summary:
Assume responsibilities for assigned care to students at schools within the scope of the School Board of Bay County. Work directly with PanCare corporate leadership to ensure positive results and success in the school health program.
Responsibilities:
- Following and enforcing school policies and procedures affecting the health, safety and well-being of employees and students in the school health setting
- Providing medication administration;maintaining proper documentation for theadministration of medication and provide parent awareness of the need to re-supply medication.
- Administering minor first aid
- Mayassistwith managing communicable diseases and conditions
- Notifying PanCare nurse, parent/guardian, and principal of acutely ill or injured students
- Completing head lice interventions (including detection, parent education and screening for re-admission to school); Efforts will be made to avoid peak medication distribution times which typically occurs during the hours of 10:30am-1:00pm
- Performing CPR/AED as needed
- Documentation and data reporting of services provided in clinic according to established policy and procedure
- Communicating with school healthnurse, school personnel or parent/guardian as needed for care of student
- Assistingin the provision of health screenings of students: hearing, vision, scoliosis,BMI and subsequent follow up referrals as requested
- Performing specialized medical procedures for students after receiving child specific training and delegation by registered nurse,such as monitoring clean catheterization;performing orassisting with blood glucose monitoring, carbohydratecounting,and insulin administration, and administering enteral gravity or pump feedings
- Overseeing inventory and usage of first aid and related health supplies and equipment and informs principal of Health Room needs
- Complying with confidentiality requirements of the School District of Bay County and PanCare of Florida,Inc.
- Ensuring that all paperwork generated in clinic will be dispersed following established policy and procedure
- Performing other related duties as assigned; including but not limited to, those duties referenced in the Provision of Health Services task list provided by the Florida Department of Health
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Regular and predictable, onsite attendance.
Education/Experience:
- High School Graduate or GEDrequired.
- Must hold currentBLScertification (Infant/Child/Adult/AED), as well as completion of First Aid training.
- Fingerprint Background Check: Must pass a Level 2 fingerprint background check, including both state and federal (FBI) criminal history checks, due to the nature of working with children and vulnerable populations
- PreviousExperience: At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting, such as a medical office, clinic, or hospitalpreferred. Experience working with children or in a school setting is a plus.
- Knowledge of Health Practices: Understanding of basic medical procedures, first aid, and student health needs.
- Administrative Skills: Experience with record-keeping,maintaining health documentation, and managing health-related information.
- Office Equipment Skills: Knowledge and proficiency required to effectively operate various types of office equipment (copier, scanner, fax etc.).
Physical Demands:
- Standing and Walking: Being on your feet for extended periods, moving around the school to assist students.
- Lifting and Carrying: Occasionally lifting students (in case of injury or medical need) or medical equipment.
- Bending and Kneeling: Assisting students with injuries or during first aid treatment.
- Dexterity: Performing tasks like administering medication, applying bandages, or using medical equipment.
- Physical Stamina: Managing long hours of activity, especially during emergencies or busy times.
- Seeing and Hearing: Ability to assess student conditions and communicate effectively in various environments.
- Emotional Maturity and Stability: Ability to approach highly stressful human situations in a calm and rational manner.
