Senior Engineer - Health Physicist

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Engineer – Health Physicist in the United States.

This role focuses on advanced health physics and radiation exposure assessment work supporting public health and research initiatives within a highly specialized federal contract environment. You will be responsible for analyzing complex radiological data, developing dose estimation methodologies, and supporting exposure assessments for workers and populations in challenging and often uncertain scenarios. The position involves independent technical decision-making, research, and application of scientific methods to address incomplete or ambiguous data sets. You will also provide expert consultation to government and health agencies at federal, state, and local levels. The environment is analytical, mission-driven, and research-oriented, requiring strong scientific rigor and attention to detail. This role also involves contributing to innovative approaches in radiation exposure modeling and ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks.

Accountabilities:
  • Perform advanced radiation exposure assessments for individuals and worker populations using scientific and regulatory frameworks.
  • Independently design and execute health physics projects involving complex or incomplete radiation monitoring data.
  • Develop and refine radiation dose estimation methods, including innovative approaches for exposure modeling and analysis.
  • Conduct literature reviews and technical research to support methodological improvements in health physics assessments.
  • Evaluate radiological data and perform quantitative analysis of occupational and environmental exposure scenarios.
  • Select and apply appropriate regulatory, legal, and scientific guidelines for radiation exposure assessment.
  • Provide technical consultation and expertise to federal, state, and local health agencies on complex health physics matters.
  • Support the development of exposure group classifications and job exposure matrices.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of scientific findings related to radiation risk and exposure.
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Health Physics, Industrial Hygiene, or Nuclear Engineering, or equivalent experience (5+ years in health physics plus relevant MS).
  • Strong background in radiation protection, dosimetry, and exposure assessment methodologies.
  • Experience working with complex, uncertain, or incomplete scientific datasets.
  • Ability to independently design research approaches and solve highly technical radiation assessment problems.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills in a scientific environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience using collaboration tools such as Teams and SharePoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and stakeholder consultation.
  • Ability to work in sensitive data environments with high attention to confidentiality and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks governing radiation safety and public health standards.
