About the role

The Programming & Provisioning Technician supports production by working with Assemblers, Engineers, Supervisors, Customer Service, and external Partners to install and provision electrical and technical components, program and update software, and test and troubleshoot equipment. Core responsibilities include programming and provisioning equipment ahead of production needs, repairing company and customer-owned equipment, and performing final product validation and quality control. The Programming & Provisioning Technician effectively troubleshoots equipment by understanding its capabilities and limitations and ensuring it is operated safely and correctly.

Thorough documentation and clear communication are central to this role. This role keeps the status of work, findings, and resolutions visible to the team, supporting accurate production planning and the data-driven improvement of products and processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Equipment Security and Compliance: Maintain security and compliance standards to protect partner-owned equipment, keeping storage areas secured and documenting changes to equipment status and location
  • Installation: Assist with the installation of cabling, satellite, radio, electrical, and technical equipment, including final installation and quality assurance.
  • Programming and Provisioning: Proactively program, test, and provision software and equipment, staying well ahead of production requirements and customer demand.
  • Repair: Perform repair work on company and customer-owned equipment, including warranty returns, thoroughly documenting all findings and resolutions
  • Final Validation and Quality Control: Perform final product validation, ensure adherence to quality control measures, and maintain rigorous, accurate quality control records
  • Troubleshooting: Resolve technical problems, escalate issues promptly when additional input is needed, and assist in implementing systemic fixes
  • Continuous Improvement: Track trends, common faults, and recurring issues, and use that information to recommend improvements to products and processes
  • Engineering Support: Support Engineering on opportunities to improve product reliability in the field, including reporting on findings from case repairs
  • Analysis and Reporting: Present analysis results and proposed solutions to technical leads and senior leaders, such as case repair summaries, documentation logs, and key quality control test points
  • Work Visibility: Provide timely, written updates on the status of work in process and upcoming work, including priorities and roadblocks, to support production planning
  • Documentation and Accuracy: Keep all relevant systems and records complete and up to date as work is completed, and review labels, placards, and documentation for accuracy before they move forward
  • Field Support: Assist with off-site repair work as determined by business needs
  • Perform other production-related duties as assigned to meet company objectives

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a technical, manufacturing, or field service environment with telecommunications, satellite/radio equipment, networking hardware, electrical systems, software/equipment provisioning, or customer-facing technical support
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct technical analysis, troubleshoot complex issues, thoroughly document findings and solutions, and communicate technical recommendations to internal teams, customers, and leadership
  • Strong computer and technical proficiency (Microsoft 365, including Excel and SharePoint)

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Five (5) years of experience in a technical, manufacturing, or field service environment with telecommunications, satellite/radio equipment, networking hardware, electrical systems, software/equipment provisioning, or customer-facing technical support
  • Associate degree or technical certificate in electronics, electrical technology, or a related field
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., IPC soldering, CompTIA A+ or Network+)
  • Experience with Fishbowl or other ERP/inventory management systems

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with the ability to independently assemble, troubleshoot, and test complex mechanical and electrical products
  • Working knowledge of electrical assembly practices, wiring techniques, cable routing, connectors, and related components
  • Ability to perform assigned work independently with limited supervision and determine appropriate methods or next steps when work requires interpretation or troubleshooting
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, take initiative, and meet deadlines
  • Proficient computer skills with a strong understanding of technology and software capabilities, including device programming and provisioning
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to identify potential causes, recognize quality issues, evaluate and implement corrective actions within established procedures, and escalate issues requiring additional technical, engineering, or management support
  • Ability to use a variety of hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and manufacturing equipment safely and effectively
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to verify work against drawings, specifications, quality standards, and established testing requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including clear and concise technical documentation
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also taking ownership of assigned work and responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment
  • Commitment to safety, quality standards, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in a manufacturing environment

Core Competencies:

Understands equipment capabilities, limitations, and operating requirements; interprets technical documentation, diagrams, and specifications; and applies this knowledge to perform work accurately and effectively.
  • Decision Making & Judgement: Exercises sound judgment when evaluating production challenges, determining the appropriate course of action, and resolving issues within established guidelines. Recognizes when an issue can be resolved independently and when engineering, quality, or management support is needed.

  • Safety: Consistently follows safety policies and procedures, uses required personal protective equipment (PPE), and helps maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Problem-solving & Troubleshooting: Investigates issues methodically by identifying symptoms, evaluating potential causes, and determining root causes rather than relying solely on immediate fixes. Applies technical knowledge and sound judgment to develop practical solutions, adapts to changing priorities, and shares lessons learned to support continuous improvement while maintaining quality and efficiency.
  • Initiative: Anticipates production and customer needs, proactively prepares equipment and materials, and stays ahead of scheduled requirements. Identifies potential issues or delays early and takes appropriate action to maintain workflow and production readiness.
  • Continuous Improvement & Learning: Demonstrates initiative in developing advanced technical skills and identifying opportunities to improve production processes, quality, efficiency, and waste reduction. Contributes practical observations and recommendations based on hands-on experience and technical understanding.

  • Ability to comply with safety requirements, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
