Job Description
This recruitment will establish an eligibility list for current and future vacancies for Pool Operator positions. These positions may remain open until filled and the eligibility list will be active for one year.
The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) is seeking a Pool Operator I to maintain both the Harman and Sunset Swim Center locations! Applicants with direct or progressively related experience are encouraged to apply, provided they are able to obtain their Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within six (6) months of hire.
The Pool Operator I plays a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and effective maintenance and custodial operations at their assigned facility. The Pool Operator I is an entry-level classification in the pool operator series. You’ll start with close guidance as you learn about out practices, but your responsibilities and independence will expand as you gain experience.
The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 4:00 AM to 12:45 PM. Assignments and schedules are subject to change based on organizational and seasonal need.

Center-wide Operations
- Responsible for a wide variety maintenance and custodial support of district events, public programs, and community activities.
- Participates in annual budget preparation for assigned center.
- Coordinates and communicates with center staff to develop work plans, procedures and schedules to meet maintenance needs and goals and in accordance with established and special operational priorities.
- Assists in maintaining an inventory of supplies, i.e. pool chemicals, paper towels, toilet paper, soap, etc.
- Attends weekly meetings with programming and facilities staff to plan for and coordinate upcoming events and activities at assigned center.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety of, and access to assigned facilities in inclement weather.
Facility Operations and Maintenance
- Performs routine minor repairs and preventative maintenance of the interior and exterior areas of the facility.
- Inspects assigned center for maintenance and custodial needs and recommends appropriate actions.
- Maintains and refinishes floor surfaces.
Aquatic Operations
- Assist in maintenance, cleaning and minor repairs of swimming pools, i.e. tanks, diving boards, and other related items.
- Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on aquatic mechanical systems and related equipment.
- Clean aquatic facility and mechanical systems safely while using cleaning tools, materials and disinfectants.

- Knowledge of aquatic systems, water chemistry, filtration systems, and pool mechanical operations.
- Knowledge of building maintenance practices, custodial operations, and preventative maintenance systems.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to operational needs across multiple facility areas.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with staff, patrons, and partners.
Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that would likely provide the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Minimum Qualifications: Completion of the twelfth grade, or equivalent work-life experience, and one (1) year of experience in aquatic facility operations and maintenance.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Certified Pool Operator (within six months of employment or first available class).
- Valid Oregon Driver license and good driving record.
