Job purpose

The Gateway Instructor is responsible for the oversight, implementation, and development of Project SYNCERE’s Gateway program. This person helps develop the structure of the program, manages the program staff and operations, and maintains relationships with volunteers.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Manage classroom attendance, weekly check-in reports and lesson plans
  • Co-instruct an assigned PLTW Engineering module to a class of middle school students
  • Complete & pass mandatory trainings
  • Prepares class sessions and assignments to help students grasp course content and how it integrates with overall student learning outcomes for the course
  • Creates a learning environment that encourages student involvement and participation.
  • Prepare status and progress reports
  • Coordinate communications with parents.
  • Manage and coordinate successful field trips
Requirements:

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or working towards a degree in a STEM related field inclusive of STEM education required
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Ability to multi- task, and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in an expeditious matter.
  • Ability to problem solve, analyze information, and demonstrate professionalism
  • Must display sophisticated writing and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • At least 2 years teaching experience with middle school students preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience working in technology and/or engineering industry preferred
  • PLTW Gateway App Inventor, Automaton & Robotics and Green Architect preferred
  • Professional writing experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in using Virtual Platform
  • Ability to work in a Hybrid environment (live-in person and on use of virtual platforms)

Working conditions

  • This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Saturday Sessions throughout the Academic school year (Sept-June)

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for up to 8 hours a day.
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects
