Payroll Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Payroll Specialist based in the United States.

This is an opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing for employees across multiple states and locations. In this remote role, you will oversee essential payroll operations, from wage and tax calculations to deductions, reconciliations, and reporting. You will serve as a trusted resource for employees by resolving payroll questions and discrepancies efficiently and professionally. Working closely with Human Resources and Finance teams, you will help maintain reliable payroll records and support audits and year-end activities. Your analytical skills and attention to detail will contribute to regulatory compliance and financial accuracy. You will also have the opportunity to improve payroll procedures and systems while supporting a positive employee experience.

Accountabilities:
  • Process payroll for employees across multiple states and locations, ensuring accuracy and timely payment.
  • Calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and payroll taxes in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Review payroll data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency before processing.
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies promptly and professionally.
  • Manage payroll deductions, tax withholdings, wage garnishments, and other payroll-related adjustments.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare accurate payroll reports for internal review and financial reporting.
  • Support payroll audits, year-end processing, and related compliance activities.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records while protecting confidential and sensitive information.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Finance teams to investigate and resolve payroll-related issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll procedures, systems, and workflows to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements:

  • At least five years of professional payroll experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of payroll regulations, tax requirements, and compliance practices relevant to multi-state payroll processing.
  • Experience using payroll systems such as UKG or Workday.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to analyze payroll data accurately.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate, complete payroll records.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate discrepancies and identify appropriate solutions.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to respond effectively to employee questions and collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to handle confidential employee and financial information with discretion.
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to manage recurring payroll deadlines in a remote work environment.

  • Annual starting salary range of $70,000–$85,000, depending on location, experience, and qualifications.
