Job Description

Application Security Engineer

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Application Security Engineer in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and cybersecurity, focused on embedding security deeply into modern, high-scale application ecosystems that power critical global operations. You will help design and evolve secure-by-default systems, ensuring that security is integrated throughout the software development lifecycle rather than applied as an afterthought. Working closely with engineering, product, and infrastructure teams, you will identify risks, architect resilient defenses, and drive secure development practices across cloud-native environments. The position blends hands-on engineering with strategic security leadership, including automation, threat modeling, and DevSecOps enablement. You will also contribute to building scalable security programs and customer-facing security capabilities that support business growth. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape the security posture of systems processing massive real-world transaction volumes.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will lead application security strategy and execution across engineering teams while building scalable, automated, and resilient security systems. You will embed security into development workflows and ensure that products are designed with strong security principles from the ground up.

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable application security architectures aligned with business and engineering needs
  • Integrate security and privacy controls into the full software development lifecycle
  • Drive DevSecOps practices, including shift-left security and CI/CD security integration
  • Develop automated security tools, processes, and systems to scale detection and prevention capabilities
  • Conduct threat modeling, security design reviews, and vulnerability assessments across applications and APIs
  • Build customer-facing security features and capabilities that enhance product trust and adoption
  • Develop high-quality alerting, monitoring, and response systems for security events
  • Support compliance and regulatory alignment across frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR, and others
  • Partner with engineering and product teams to promote secure coding practices and improve developer enablement
  • Contribute to secure cloud migration strategies and multi-environment security hardening
  • Participate in M&A security assessments and integration of acquired systems into existing standards
  • Create documentation, training, and enablement resources to improve organization-wide security maturity
Requirements

The ideal candidate brings strong application security expertise combined with hands-on software engineering experience and the ability to influence technical direction across teams.

  • 5+ years of experience in application security, DevSecOps, or security engineering roles
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong programming ability in at least two languages such as Python, Go, Ruby, or Rust
  • Experience securing large-scale web applications and APIs, including security design reviews and vulnerability testing
  • Strong understanding of threat modeling, risk assessment, and secure architecture design
  • Experience building security into CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps workflows
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, SOX/ITGC, HIPAA, GDPR, and CCPA
  • Experience working with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and distributed systems
  • Knowledge of mixed operating environments (Linux, Windows, macOS)
  • Strong communication skills with ability to explain security concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and product teams in fast-paced environments
  • Experience with automation, security tooling, and scalable security program development
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation package with equity opportunities
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage
  • Flexible work schedule with paid time off
  • Remote-friendly work environment with home office stipend
  • Collaborative and fast-paced engineering culture
  • Opportunity to work on high-scale systems supporting millions of real-world transactions
  • Strong emphasis on innovation, ownership, and engineering impact
  • Continuous learning and growth opportunities in a high-growth organization
