Position Overview
The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Crew Leader serves as a lead worker, providing guidance and instruction to assigned crew members. Assumes responsibility for the safety of crew members within his command and is responsible for the completion of all tasks assigned.
Starting Salary Range: $26.65-$30.65/hour, based on experience
Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities of WWTP Operator in Training II.
- Performs overall preventive maintenance checks.
- Performs general shop maintenance and supervises clean-up.
- Supervises employees assigned to maintenance and repair issues.
- Supervises crews to accomplish repairs.
- Works directly with Department staff to record and manage all Town fixed assets.
- Trains staff on applicable infrastructure and procedures.
- Available for on-call rotation and in the event of an emergency.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are considered secondary to the position’s core functions but are necessary to support departmental and Town-wide objectives:
- Participate in Town emergency response and be available for after-hours call-out.
- Operate a snowplow and salt truck during inclement weather operations, if needed.
Education, Certification, and/or Experience
- All Education, certification and/or experience of a WWTP Operator in Training II
- Possession of a High School diploma or GED
- Possession of a valid Maryland Class B CDL with tank endorsement and air brakes
- Must have a Maryland Class 5A and T1 certification, or ability to recertify upon hire if licenses have expired
- Three (3) years of Wasterwater experience
- Ability to operate all Town equipment
The preferred candidate will have:
- Possession of valid MD Class A CDL
Physical/Work Conditions
- Requires regular sitting, talking, hearing, and vision; occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- May lift/move up to or in excess of 75 pounds.
- Work may occur indoors and outdoors with exposure to noise, dust, grease, mud, and hot/cold/wet/snowy weather; may require unusual hours.
