Janitor / Environmental Services (EVS) Technician

Location: Hampton VA Medical Center, 100 Emancipation Drive, Hampton, VA 23667

Pay: $16.15 per hour + $5.09 per hour to utilize for Health Insurance

Schedule: Monday – Friday 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM (includes scheduled breaks and lunch)

Job Summary:

Falcontek is seeking reliable, detail-oriented Janitors / EVS Technicians to provide custodial and environmental services support at the Hampton VA Health Care System under a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs janitorial services contract. This position performs daily cleaning, disinfection, and sanitation tasks throughout designated administrative offices, sub-acute clinical areas, and the Domiciliary residential area (approximately 212,874 total square feet), helping maintain a clean, safe, and professional environment for Veterans, staff, and visitors. This is a healthcare-setting custodial role requiring strict adherence to infection control, safety, and patient privacy standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Floor Care: Sweep, dust mop, auto-scrub, and wet mop all non-carpeted floors; maintain baseboards, corners, and wall/floor edges free of dirt, scuff marks, and stains; move and replace furniture and trash receptacles as needed to clean underneath.

• Cleaning & Disinfection: Clean offices, clinical areas, and residential areas in accordance with CDC guidance and Hampton VA Environmental Management Service (EMS) protocols; disinfect high-touch surfaces (door handles, push bars, light switches, handrails, etc.) on a continual basis.

• Restroom Servicing: Clean and disinfect sinks, toilets, urinals, partitions, and dispensers daily; de-scale toilets and urinals as needed; sweep and mop restroom floors; stock soap, paper towels, and toilet paper, refilling within 24 hours of notification.

• Trash & Waste Removal: Empty and reline all trash and waste receptacles daily, including regulated medical waste (RMW) handled per EMS guidelines and regulatory requirements, following required safety training.

• Glass, Windows & Mirrors: Clean interior glass, mirrors, partitions, and display cases using microfiber cloths, leaving surfaces free of film, streaks, and smudges; clean interior windows, sills, and blinds weekly.

• Carpets & Mats: Vacuum carpeted areas and floor mats; spot-treat stains using approved methods; report tears, burns, or unraveling to the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).

• Dusting & Fixtures: Perform general dusting of horizontal and vertical surfaces, furniture, and equipment; clean air conditioning vents and fluorescent light fixture diffusers weekly.

• Cubicle Curtains: Inspect patient exam room cubicle curtains for wear, tear, or staining and change/hang curtains per the facility’s curtain schedule.

• Supply Management: Stock designated areas with patient textiles and consumable supplies as assigned; participate in supply restocking in a safe and efficient manner.

• Safety & Compliance: Follow all VA safety, infection control, and fire/life safety requirements; immediately report any building damage, safety hazards, or deficiencies to the on-site Work Leader.

Required Qualifications:

• Ability to speak and read English fluently (required for safety, patient privacy, and communication with VA staff).

• Must be in good physical health

• Must successfully complete a national criminal history background check / Federal PIV background investigation and obtain a VA-issued access badge prior to starting work; must maintain eligibility for continued unescorted facility access throughout employment.

• Prior janitorial, custodial, or environmental services experience preferred, ideally in a healthcare or institutional setting.

• Ability to follow written and verbal cleaning protocols, safety data sheets (SDS), and infection control procedures.

• Reliable attendance and punctuality; willingness to work the full Monday–Friday schedule.

• Professional conduct at all times; no use of tobacco, food, or drink outside designated break areas; no smoking anywhere on the VA campus.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

• Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods (approximate shift length: 8.5 hours including breaks/lunch).

• Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and supplies (e.g., mop buckets, vacuum cleaners, trash containers), and move light furniture using proper body mechanics.

• Exposure to cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and, on occasion, regulated medical waste; personal protective equipment (gloves, face covering, eye protection) provided by the facility as needed.

• Work is performed inside a healthcare facility, including administrative offices, clinical/sub-acute areas, and a residential Domiciliary unit with occupancy of approximately 62 residents; contact with patients, staff, and visitors is routine.
