Our team is built on collaboration, organization, and a strong commitment to client satisfaction. As we continue to expand nationwide, we are dedicated to developing talent, fostering growth, and consistently delivering high-quality solutions on time and within budget.

We are seeking a Construction Estimator to join our growing team. This position is open to candidates of all experience levels and is an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to learn and grow in commercial construction estimating. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills, a detail-oriented mindset, and a collaborative approach.

This role provides hands-on training with our estimating processes and tools, including quantity takeoffs, proposal preparation, bid analysis, and estimating software. Candidates with some construction, internship, or assistant estimating experience will thrive, while motivated newcomers with a strong growth mindset are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of construction cost estimates by reviewing project plans, specifications, and bid documents for retail and commercial projects, under the guidance of a senior estimator.
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs and help analyze labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs to contribute to accurate and competitive bids.
  • Communicate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to gather pricing, clarify scope, and support bid development.
  • Help organize and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure alignment with project requirements and budget expectations.
  • Assist in preparing proposals, including cost breakdowns, scope summaries, and supporting documentation for bid submissions.
  • Support the preconstruction team in assembling bid packages and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Maintain organized digital records of takeoffs, bid documents, subcontractor proposals, contracts, and correspondence.
  • Assist in monitoring project budgets and tracking awarded project costs for learning and cost-control exposure.
  • Support the development and use of estimating templates and standardized processes to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Provide estimating support on a variety of projects, including retail build-outs, restaurant construction, renovations, rollouts, and commercial remodels.
  • Learn and utilize estimating tools such as Excel, Bluebeam, and other takeoff or estimating software (training provided).
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment by participating in internal meetings and supporting project managers and senior estimators as needed.

Experience

  • Entry-Level / Junior Estimating Experience: Previous internship experience, assistant estimating roles, construction field experience, or relevant coursework in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred. Candidates eager to learn and grow in commercial construction estimating are encouraged to apply.
  • Basic Understanding of Construction & Takeoffs: Familiarity with reading construction drawings and specifications. Willingness to learn how to perform quantity takeoffs and assist in analyzing labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing under senior estimator guidance.
  • Analytical & Math Skills: Strong attention to detail with the ability to work with numbers, analyze data, and support cost comparisons and budget reviews.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Comfortable working in a team environment and communicating with subcontractors, vendors, and internal project teams. Open to feedback and mentorship.
  • Proposal & Bid Support: Assist in assembling bid packages, organizing subcontractor quotes, preparing cost breakdowns, and supporting proposal documentation.
  • Organization & Documentation: Maintain accurate and organized digital files for takeoffs, bid documents, correspondence, and historical cost data.
  • Software Familiarity: Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (specially Excel) required. Exposure to Bluebeam, takeoff software, or estimating platforms is a plus, but training will be provided.
  • Growth Mindset: Demonstrates coachability, flexibility, creativity in problem-solving, and a strong desire to develop estimating skills within a fast-paced commercial construction environment.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable supporting multiple projects simultaneously and adjusting to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Career Development Focus: Seeking a long-term opportunity to grow within the estimating and preconstruction team at AFS.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong Communication Skills: Clear verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to professionally interact with internal team members, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Organization & Attention to Detail: Highly organized with a detail-oriented mindset, able to manage multiple documents, quotes, and deadlines accurately.
  • Coachable & Collaborative: Open to feedback and mentorship, with the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment and support senior estimators and project managers.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word). Familiarity with Adobe, MS Outlook, MS Project, Bluebeam, or estimating software is a plus; willingness to learn is essential.
  • Time Management & Adaptability: Able to support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Comfortable working with numbers, reviewing data, identifying discrepancies, and supporting cost comparisons.
  • Professionalism & Client Interaction: Ability to represent the company professionally in communications and demonstrate a client-service mindset when supporting preconstruction efforts.
