They record accurate vital signs and document detailed medical histories directly into the EMR system to prepare patients for the provider.
- Basic X-Ray Operation & Radiation Safety - The individual prepares patients and safely captures basic diagnostic digital X-rays of the chest and extremities as ordered by the provider. They strictly adhere to Georgia Department of Community Health radiation safety rules by utilizing proper lead shielding and monitoring personal dosimeter badges.

They centrifuge, label, and package these specimens while maintaining an unbroken, legally defensible Chain of Custody when required.

They also perform specialized surveillance screenings, including audiograms, vision checks, and Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT/Spirometry).
- General Clinical Assistance & Procedures - The employee directly assists medical providers with clinical interventions, including minor laceration repairs, splinting, and ear irrigations. They safely administer non-intravenous injections and deliver clear discharge or work-restriction instructions to the patient before they leave the facility.
- Point-of-Care (CLIA-Waived) Lab Testing - The specialist runs in-house, rapid diagnostic tests for acute infections like flu, strep, and COVID-19, as well as basic urinalysis. They perform daily calibrations and maintain detailed logs to ensure total compliance with CLIA and OSHA laboratory standards.
