Psychiatric Emergency Department Technician (PEDT) – RWJBarnabas Health

A typical day for a Psychiatric Emergency Department Technician may include:

  • Collecting, assessing, and retrieving clinical data reflective of each patient's immediate physical and behavioral health status
  • Interpreting and evaluating age-specific patient information to accurately identify unique needs and support optimal patient outcomes
  • Providing direct, compassionate patient care under the close direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse
  • Utilizing specialized psychiatric and clinical techniques established within the crisis intervention and job requirements
  • Assisting healthcare professionals with safe data collection, patient monitoring, and the delivery of emergency psychiatric care
  • Contributing to a collaborative team environment where professionalism, rapid communication, and patient-centered care are shared priorities

To be considered for this Psychiatric Emergency Department Technician opportunity, you are passionate about delivering compassionate patient care while creating a positive, safe experience for every individual you serve.

  • This position offers a flexible Per Diem schedule on the Day Shift, allowing you to contribute to critical psychiatric patient care while balancing your personal schedule.
  • You hold a High School Diploma or equivalent and a current American Heart Association BLS certification.
  • You possess at least one year of patient care experience, along with prior hospital and mental health environment experience.
  • You have the ability to successfully complete all required organizational orientation programs, including specialized Iron Temple Training.
  • At least one year of dedicated behavioral health experience, along with EKG and phlebotomy skills, are preferred.
