ABOUT THE ROLE
The Mechanical Systems Engineer will serve as part of Allied Graphite's owner's engineering team, providing technical leadership and review of engineering deliverables prepared by contracted engineering service providers. The role supports the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of process facilities, with a focus on process piping systems for chemical processing, slurry transport, gas systems, and plant utility infrastructure.
This position reports to the Engineering Manager and is initially based in Mesa, Arizona. As Allied Graphite advances toward a commercial-scale graphite processing facility at a to-be-determined U.S. project site, permanent relocation to the final site will be required to support construction, commissioning, and long-term operations. The role is expected to be in-office and on-site as required, with approximately 25% travel to support engineering reviews, vendor visits, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and coordination with engineering service providers and project stakeholders.
Reports to Engineering Manager or Engineering & Projects Manager
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as owner’s-team subject matter expert for process piping systems across study, FEED, detailed design, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Review engineering service provider deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, line lists, piping specifications, layouts, 3D model reviews, and isometrics.
- Ensure piping systems support operability, maintainability, safety, and constructability.
- Coordinate with process, mechanical, electrical, controls, and operations teams.
- Participate in HAZOP, constructability reviews, and model reviews.
- Support development of internal piping standards and specifications.
- Assist during procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning phases.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 6+ years to 10+ years of industrial engineering experience.
- Experience with process piping systems in industrial process plants.
- Familiarity with ASME B31.3.
- Experience reviewing contractor engineering deliverables.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
- Experience with slurry or corrosive service piping.
- Experience working on owner teams or EPC/EPCM projects.
