This role is a senior technical leadership position focused on driving architecture, engineering quality, and execution across complex, cross-team initiatives. You will act as a key technical authority, shaping system design decisions and guiding the delivery of scalable, reliable, and high-performance software platforms. The position blends hands-on engineering with strategic influence, requiring the ability to translate high-level product and business goals into robust technical solutions. You will work closely with engineering managers, product leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment across roadmaps and technical execution. The environment is fast-paced and highly collaborative, with strong emphasis on engineering excellence, operational rigor, and continuous improvement. This role also involves mentoring senior engineers, elevating engineering standards, and contributing directly to critical components when needed.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the design and execution of large-scale, cross-team engineering initiatives, ensuring strong architectural foundations and clear technical direction.
  • Define and promote architectural standards, reference patterns, and best practices across engineering teams.
  • Drive system design reviews and architectural decision-making for high-impact initiatives, documenting trade-offs and long-term implications.
  • Translate strategic product and business objectives into concrete, executable engineering plans and technical roadmaps.
  • Improve system reliability, scalability, performance, and operational excellence across critical platforms.
  • Lead incident response efforts and post-incident reviews to drive long-term system improvements and resilience.
  • Mentor senior engineers, elevate technical rigor, and influence engineering culture and standards across the organization.
  • Contribute hands-on to high-impact codebases and author key technical documentation including RFCs and architecture decision records.
  • Participate in hiring processes and help maintain a high engineering bar through technical interviews and team calibration.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong record of technical leadership.
  • Proven experience leading complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives at scale.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud platforms, or large-scale backend/data systems.
  • Strong programming skills in at least one backend language (e.g., Java, Python, Go, or similar).
  • Excellent system design and architecture skills with the ability to evaluate trade-offs effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering direction.
  • Strong understanding of reliability engineering, observability, and production system operations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Preferred: experience with large-scale platform modernization, FinOps practices, or public technical contributions.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary range of $120,000 – $175,000 annually.
  • 100% remote work across the United States.
  • Full-time W-2 employment in a stable, engineering-driven environment.
  • Opportunity to shape architecture and engineering standards at scale.
  • Direct impact on platform modernization, reliability, and system performance.
  • Strong emphasis on technical leadership, mentorship, and career growth.
  • Inclusive and equal opportunity workplace culture supporting diversity and innovation.
