Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

- We offer a 7-on, 7-off schedule that consists of one week of 12-hour day shifts followed by one week off, followed by one week of 12-hour night shifts. This schedule offers a great work-life balance with ample time for rest and personal activities.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating assigned heavy mining equipment to support production activities while maintaining established safety and performance standards. This position plays a key role in achieving production targets through the safe, efficient, and responsible operation of equipment in an active surface mining environment.
The Heavy Equipment Operator is expected to follow all operating procedures, participate in safety initiatives, and work collaboratively with supervisors and fellow team members to support safe and productive mining operations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate mining hydraulic excavators, hydraulic front shovels, CAT 994 class production loaders, and haul trucks in accordance with established operating procedures.
- Haul Truck Operation: Operate haul trucks (primarily CAT 789D and CAT 793 models), including proper spotting, dumping, parking, refueling, and equipment handling procedures.
- Safety & Compliance: Demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices by following company policies, operating procedures, and applicable safety standards at all times.
- Equipment Care: Perform basic cleaning of assigned equipment and safely handle approved cleaning chemicals and materials.
- Operational Support: Participate in daily line-out meetings and safety meetings, contributing to discussions that improve workplace safety and operational efficiency.
- Training & Collaboration: Assist with peer operator training and share operational knowledge to support team development.
- Additional Duties: Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required
- Previous mining experience operating a hydraulic excavator, hydraulic front shovel, or CAT 994 class production loader.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate heavy mining equipment.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to comprehend work assignments, operating procedures, and applicable safety standards.
Preferred
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Arizona Driver's License.
- Experience operating additional types of heavy mining equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work in an active surface mining environment with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Operate heavy equipment for extended periods.
- Frequently enter and exit heavy equipment using stairs and ladders.
- Walk and work on uneven terrain.
- Perform work in dusty, noisy, and vibrating environments.
- Work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required to support mine operations.
All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required. Capstone maintains a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
