Position Summary

The Dockhand is responsible for supporting safe, orderly dock operations and assisting members with boats, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and related waterfront equipment. This position plays an important role in providing excellent member service, maintaining dock and equipment readiness, supporting daily setup and closing procedures, and helping members safely access and enjoy the waterfront.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Greet and assist members in a friendly, professional, and service-focused manner.
• Assist members with docking and undocking boats, including handling dock lines and fenders as appropriate.
• Assist members with safe boarding and disembarking and with loading or unloading personal items and boating equipment.
• Help members check out and return stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and related equipment.
• Retrieve waterfront equipment from storage each morning, stage it safely at the dock, and return it to storage at the end of the day.
• Clean, rinse, organize, and inspect paddleboards, kayaks, paddles, personal flotation devices, dock lines, and related equipment.
• Issue appropriate personal flotation devices and provide basic safety reminders and equipment-use guidelines.
• Inspect docks, cleats, ladders, slips, and waterfront equipment; promptly report damage, hazards, safety concerns, or maintenance needs.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe docks, storage areas, and equipment-staging areas.
• Assist with inventory tracking and proper storage of waterfront equipment, boating supplies, and safety gear.
• Monitor dock activity and boat arrivals and departures, offering assistance and communicating operational concerns to management.
• Follow all organizational safety procedures, emergency protocols, and member service standards.
• Support other marina, dock, recreation, or member service operations and perform other reasonable duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a marina, dock operation, hospitality, customer service, or outdoor recreation environment preferred.
• Familiarity with boats, basic docking procedures, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, or similar waterfront equipment preferred.
• Ability to safely handle dock lines and assist members with boarding, disembarking, and loading items.
• Ability to provide courteous, professional service and communicate instructions clearly to members and guests.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining clean, ready equipment.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable working outdoors, on docks, and near water in various weather conditions.
• CPR, First Aid, or water safety certification preferred, or willingness to obtain if required.
• Must have the ability to swim.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to perform physical tasks associated with dock and waterfront operations. Duties may include standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, handling dock lines, and moving equipment such as paddleboards, kayaks, paddles, personal flotation devices, and boating supplies. The employee must be able to safely transport equipment between storage areas and docks and assist members with boarding, disembarking, and loading items, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment

The Dockhand works primarily outdoors and may be exposed to sun, heat, humidity, rain, wind, water, boat traffic, wet or uneven surfaces, and other waterfront conditions. Work may take place on docks and near marina, waterfront, and storage areas. Weekend, holiday, and evening availability may be required based on operational needs.
