Description:

Lehigh Valley Imaging is currently hiring for an MRI Technologist QC Supervisor. This position is full-time, working 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm Monday through Friday primarily out of the Muhlenberg Hospital location.

Job Summary:

Directs and oversees the MRI Staff Technologists so that they provide proper MRI imaging in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Performs and oversees all specific factors associated with maintaining department standards while maintaining strict compliance and safety standards. Performs MRI procedures as requested by referring physicians in accordance with proper operational protocols.

Requirements:

Supervising Technologist Responsibilities:

-Oversees the daily workflow and schedule of the clinical department. Suggests areas for workflow improvement and implements strategies in conjunction with manager.

-Coordinates the staff technologists’ work schedules, approving or denying time off requests based upon departmental needs.

-Directs staff technologists’ daily responsibilities, ensuring adequate coverage of all magnets and all assigned duties are completed.

-Responsible for protocoling routine cases and works with radiologists to protocol unusual cases.

-Reviews studies done by staff technologists for quality and accuracy. Works with any technologist not performing to standards.

-Assists staff technologists with questions about cases or protocols; fields questions from staff regarding proper MRI scheduling or clearing patient implants/surgeries.

-Researches and clears implants for MRI safety; determines patient eligibility to receive contrast.

-Verifies physicians’ orders are appropriate for patient signs/symptoms and are in accordance with established departmental protocols.

-Works to improve protocols whenever possible after software upgrades or input from radiologists.

-Works in conjunction with nursing units to schedule inpatient exams in a timely fashion, ensuring safety, compliance and patient’s ability to tolerate exam. Coordinates anesthesia as needed.

-Arranges transport for inpatients coming to the MRI department.

-Communicates with nursing unit/physician any change in status while patient is in MRI department.

-Handles emergent and STAT cases, rearranging the schedule as necessary to accommodate.

-Rearranges schedule if magnets are running behind to ensure patients receive their scan in a timely manner.

-Oversees staff technologists to ensure they follow proper protocols and procedures when working in the MRI department.

-Performs and monitors safety checks on patients, employees and visitors in accordance with ACR safety standards concerning ferrous objects, implants and mechanical devices.

-Assists staff technologists with difficult patients, providing service recovery, as needed.

-Assumes responsibility and accountability for his/her own safety and the safety of others.

-Assumes responsibility for proper and efficient operation of equipment and reports malfunction of equipment to MRI Manager; arranges service.

-Reports patient incidents to MRI Manager and ensures all work-related incidents are reported to the MRI Manager and Human Resources.

-Maintains strict confidentiality related to patients and staff.

-Leads team huddles/staff meetings in the absence of the Manager.

-Completes and delivers annual staff technologists’ performance evaluations and competencies.

-Counsels and disciplines staff technologists according to LVI’s progressive disciplinary policy when there is a breach of safety, policy or procedure.

-Orders medical supplies associated with MR Imaging.

-Other duties as assigned.

Non-Supervisory Duties:

  • In addition to Supervisory responsibilities:

-Scans patients when staffing necessitates, producing images of good diagnostic quality and prepares images for radiologists’ interpretation.

-Assists with lifting and moving patients; assists with patient ambulation.

-Provides proper patient care, comfort and understanding at all times.

-Performs venipunctures, starts IVs, checks all connections, verifies proper settings of equipment under physician supervision.

-Adheres to downtime procedures to ensure appropriate information is available, patient care remains continuous and proper parties are notified, if needed.

-Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services or continuing education.

-Abides by all departmental policies, including safety, attendance and dress code.

-Consistently displays PRIDE/Core behaviors and represents LVI in a positive manner.

-Maintains cleanliness in designated work areas.

-Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

Basic computer and telephone skills required. Demonstrates competency in Epic.

Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to deal effectively and ethically with confidential medical information related to patients, families and physicians.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to multi-task.

Projects and models professionalism, dependability and a positive attitude at all times.

Ability to work independently and also collaboratively.

Education and Experience:

High school graduate or equivalent required.

Customer service experience required.

Three years of experience as an MRI Technologist preferred.

Graduate of accredited Radiography program and (MR) certification required.

BLS required.

Knowledge of basic nursing practices related to MRI, including emergency evacuation procedures, sterile practices, universal precautions, CPR, code blue and RRT response required.
