Successful candidate is responsible for the activities in the Machine Shop, consisting of a variety of tasks of considerable complexity which require the manufacture of parts and components to extremely close tolerances.
Location: On-site at GSFC Greenbelt, MD
Job Requirements:
- Looking for minimum of 10 yrs of Punch/ Sheet metal machine programming experience
- Knowledge and experience using Amada Punches, press, press break, bending machines, rivet guns,
- Should you become ill or unexpectedly absent it is expected that your program code communicates clearly the optional stop or hard stops such that part handoff to another person is possible.
- Assembles or fabricates all sheet metal part set-ups and operates all machine tools to fabricate parts per Engineering drawings or sketches.
- Applies knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, machine shop procedures, and has good knowledge in the use of edge finders, indicators, rivets, rivet guns, drill presses or manual mills etc.
- Studies specifications, such as blueprints and sketches to determine dimensions and tolerances of piece to be bent, machined, sequence of operations, tooling and materials and machines required. Establish most efficient machining procedure to build the hardware.
- Verifies conformance of work piece to specification prior to turning in work, using calipers, micrometers, and various other inspection equipment.
- Uses hand tools to assemble parts when necessary.
- Generates complete fabrication and assembly documentation. Inputs part data into machine tool computers from Engineering drawings and sketches to produce finished hardware.
- Generates sheet metal fabrication job estimates including fixturing design.
- Exercising shop safety and shop processes such as keeping work area clean and reporting safety issues are required.
- Can train young technicians on the use, and safety of sheet metal machines and tools.
- All candidates must meet the 22 CFR 120.15 definition of U.S. Persons
Job Preferences:
- CAD/CAM knowledge is desired for fixture designs.
- Knowledge of regular maintenance and scheduled maintenance of some sheet metal machines, presses, punch, autoclaves, spray booth, manual machines desired.
- Certificates of training obtained for software, controllers, or from Original Equipment Manufacturers is desired.
- Knowledge of and experience using part tracking software such as Acumatica, Katana, JobBoss or Epicor is desired.
