The Engineering Team Lead, Electrical will oversee engineering team performance while maintaining technical involvement in complex electrical design projects. This role combines mentorship, project leadership, quality assurance, and operational improvement responsibilities.
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to assigned electrical engineering teams, supporting professional growth and project success.
- Develop engineers through structured coaching, regular feedback, career discussions, technical reviews, and targeted development plans.
- Support onboarding and technical ramp-up for new engineers and designers while promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
- Participate in recruitment activities by evaluating technical skills, communication abilities, and team alignment of prospective candidates.
- Coordinate workload planning, resource allocation, staffing needs, and project priorities with department leadership.
- Establish and reinforce standardized engineering workflows, design practices, quality standards, and accountability expectations.
- Perform advanced electrical engineering activities, including electrical distribution design, equipment selection, infrastructure layouts, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Support project execution from design through construction by reviewing drawings, responding to RFIs, evaluating submittals, and assisting with project closeout activities.
- Manage project design teams effectively by coordinating resources, monitoring schedules, identifying risks, and supporting cost control initiatives.
- Encourage the adoption of digital tools, automation, analytics, and AI-enabled solutions to improve engineering efficiency, reporting, forecasting, and quality processes.
- Track team performance, development milestones, workload distribution, and capability growth while proactively escalating challenges and recommending solutions.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement across a distributed engineering organization.
The ideal candidate is an experienced electrical engineering leader with strong technical expertise in mission-critical facilities and a passion for developing engineering talent. They should combine advanced design knowledge with strong communication, delegation, and organizational skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in a related discipline required.
- Minimum of 8 years of electrical engineering experience, preferably supporting complex infrastructure or mission-critical projects.
- Advanced knowledge of building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting systems, grounding, life safety systems, and electrical infrastructure design.
- Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards, including National Electrical Code, Life Safety Codes, and Energy Conservation Codes.
- Experience with electrical design software, including AutoCAD, Revit, and technical calculation tools for equipment sizing, arc flash studies, short circuit coordination, and lighting calculations.
- Ability to analyze technical requirements, prepare engineering documentation, and deliver accurate project solutions.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor engineers, delegate effectively, and manage team performance.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and operate independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working successfully in remote environments through strong organization, self-direction, collaboration, and proactive communication.
- Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to optimize workflows, improve operational processes, and support innovation initiatives.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
