Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Hospice Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the organization and maintenance of the hospice volunteer program. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for supervising the qualified volunteers, ensuring the volunteers help meet the patient’s needs and follow the interdisciplinary plan of care. Responsibilities also include volunteer recruitment, orientation, training, placement, supervision and the documentation of these activities.

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Volunteer Coordination
    • Recruits, trains, supervises and supports volunteers participating in administrative and/or direct patient care roles.
    • Plans and provides for ongoing volunteer education.
    • Plans and facilitates monthly meetings and prepares minutes.
    • Formulates and recommends policies and procedures as necessary.
    • Assists in the maintenance of accurate records.
    • Receives patient referrals and assigns appropriately to volunteers.
    • Attends IDT meetings and contributes the hospice Plan of Care for volunteer support.
    • Records volunteer hours on a monthly basis.
    • Coordinate volunteer appreciation events
    • Work cooperatively with hospital volunteer coordinator.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Highest level of education completed, minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Training and Experience

  • At least (1) year of related experience.
  • Hospice or Palliative Care experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current BLS HCP required.
  • Maintain a valid WA State Driver’s License, personal insurance, and is insurable with the District’s insurance carrier.
  • Must complete the required disclosure statement and pass a criminal history background check upon hire and every two (2) years thereafter.
