Job Description
Overview
The Manufacturing Release Engineer is part of the Engineering Continuous Improvement Team (ECIT) and ensures engineering designs are accurate, complete, and production-ready before reaching the shop floor.
This role owns engineering Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOMs), validates Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM)-to-MBOM translation, supports engineering release processes, identifies long-lead items, and drives continuous improvement of engineering data and manufacturing releases.
Reporting to the Engineering Integration Manager, this position works closely with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain, IT, Production Controls, Quality, and Continuous Improvement teams.

Key Responsibilities
Own and maintain engineering MBOM structures for assigned projects.
Verify EBOM-to-MBOM translation across SolidWorks PDM, PLM, and ERP systems.
Validate PDM data, including part number, description, manufacturer, manufacturer part number, revision, drawn by, group code, and product class.
Monitor PDM-to-PLM synchronization and identify data or integration issues before they impact production.
Ensure engineering releases include approved drawings, validated DXF files, and complete BOM structures.
Identify mechanical, electrical, and HVAC long-lead items at the 30% design milestone and communicate requirements to Supply Chain.
Track long-lead purchasing actions and communicate potential schedule impacts.
Develop and maintain MBOM processes, work instructions, and Engineering Handbook content.
Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews and identify improvement opportunities using NCR and CAR data.
Perform root cause analysis on MBOM and release-quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Support continuous improvement projects, standards reviews, SME panels, and new process implementation.
Partner with IT to troubleshoot PDM/PLM integration issues, validate system fixes, and support PLM system changes.
Ensure engineering teams follow approved part-number creation and release processes.
Identify undocumented BOM dependencies and establish formal processes and standards.
Work directly with Engineering during active design to prevent release issues before production.
Partner with Supply Chain to ensure purchasing decisions are based on accurate engineering data.
Coordinate with Production Controls to ensure digital engineering data is complete before physical release packages are assembled.
Represent engineering data quality in cross-functional quality and scheduling discussions.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field. Equivalent hands-on PDM/PLM and manufacturing release experience may be considered.
Experience in electrical equipment manufacturing, custom fabrication, or an Engineer-to-Order (ETO) environment.
Working proficiency with SolidWorks PDM or an equivalent PDM/PLM system, including release states, data cards, BOM structures, and check-in/check-out processes.
Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems such as M2M, OpenBOM, or equivalent.
Understanding of how engineering BOM data impacts manufacturing, purchasing, scheduling, and production.
Ability to identify process dependencies, document workflows, and develop effective work instructions.
Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Supply Chain, IT, Production, Quality, and other cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience managing EBOM-to-MBOM translation in a PDM-to-ERP integration environment.
Experience troubleshooting PDM/PLM and ERP integration issues.
Experience with OpenBOM or equivalent PLM platforms.
Experience in continuous improvement, quality engineering, or process engineering.
Familiarity with DXF generation and validation for production.
Experience designing or releasing switchgear, MCCs, PDCs, or similar custom electrical assemblies.
Exposure to ISO 9001, A-SPICE, or similar quality management systems.
Familiarity with 5-Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa, 8D, or A3 root cause analysis.
