This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Development Officer based in Canada.

This is an opportunity to lead diverse fundraising portfolios within a mission-driven organization focused on advancing equality, human rights, and meaningful social change.
You will manage relationships across individual, corporate, and foundation giving, helping strengthen long-term donor engagement and revenue growth.
The role combines relationship management, strategic communications, fundraising campaigns, stewardship, events, and planned giving.
You will work closely with senior leadership, donors, prospects, Board members, and internal teams to turn philanthropic relationships into lasting impact.
As a senior member of the Development function, you will also supervise and mentor a Development Coordinator while helping strengthen team practices and processes.
The ideal candidate is an experienced fundraiser who brings strong judgment, excellent communication skills, creativity, and exceptional organizational discipline.
This role is well suited to someone who is passionate about 2SLGBTQI rights, social justice, and building an inclusive and equitable future.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the Individual, Corporate, and Foundation Giving portfolios through strategic relationship management, prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, reporting, and stewardship.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with donors, prospects, corporate sponsors, foundations, Board members, and other key stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute two annual digital fundraising campaigns, including campaign planning, communications, donor engagement, and performance follow-up.
  • Lead donor communications, gift processing and acknowledgment, recognition initiatives, stewardship activities, and donor-facing events.
  • Manage planned giving activities, including estate and bequest administration, prospect identification, relationship development, and planned giving marketing initiatives.
  • Develop and coordinate compelling proposals, donor reports, event/project reports, and other fundraising communications.
  • Ensure corporate sponsorship commitments and contractual obligations are fulfilled accurately and on time.
  • Conduct prospect research and identify opportunities to grow and diversify philanthropic support.
  • Maintain accurate donor information and use CRM systems and other tools to support effective relationship management and reporting.
  • Provide supervision, mentorship, advice, and direction to the Development Coordinator, helping strengthen skills, accountability, and overall team effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the Development Director and broader team to align fundraising priorities with organizational strategy and impact.
  • Manage development projects from initiation through delivery, balancing multiple priorities, deadlines, stakeholders, and feedback channels.
  • Contribute to recognition and stewardship strategies that strengthen donor loyalty and long-term engagement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in business, marketing, communications, education, educational technology, or a related discipline is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • 4–5 years of fundraising experience across individual giving, donor relations, philanthropy, sponsorship, planned giving, events, or related development functions, with a demonstrated record of success in relationship management, reporting, stewardship, and donor/client engagement.
  • Previous experience working in a senior development or comparable fundraising role.
  • Familiarity with the 2SLGBTQI community and related human rights issues, with a genuine commitment to advancing equality and social justice.
  • Experience in a nonprofit, 2SLGBTQI, social justice, or similarly mission-driven environment is strongly valued.
  • Understanding of intersectionality and demonstrated commitment to working within an anti-oppression and anti-racism framework.
  • Strong writing and editing abilities, with the capacity to create persuasive fundraising communications, proposals, reports, and donor correspondence.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work effectively with donors, prospects, senior leaders, Board members, consultants, and colleagues.
  • Strong project management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage projects from initiation through completion.
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing demands, work independently with minimal supervision, meet time-sensitive deadlines, and remain effective under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high standard of quality across donor records, communications, reports, and administrative processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, motivate, and support colleagues while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience with CRM software is an asset, along with proficiency in common productivity tools such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Strong judgment, adaptability, conflict-resolution skills, and the ability to respond constructively to changing priorities and feedback.
  • Lived experience as a member of the 2SLGBTQI community is an asset.
  • Bilingual English/French capabilities are an asset.
  • A valid driver’s license is an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly, including occasional alternative hours when required by events, campaigns, or organizational priorities.
Benefits
  • Opportunity to contribute directly to fundraising initiatives supporting 2SLGBTQI equality, human rights, and social justice.
  • Meaningful senior-level responsibility across individual, corporate, and foundation giving.
  • Opportunity to build and strengthen long-term relationships with donors, foundations, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Leadership and mentorship responsibilities, including supervision and development of a Development Coordinator.
  • A collaborative, mission-driven environment where diverse perspectives and lived experiences are valued.
  • Opportunities to work closely with senior leadership, Board members, donors, and external partners.
  • Flexible working environment that accommodates changing priorities and the needs of fundraising campaigns and events.
  • Professional growth opportunities through exposure to strategic fundraising, planned giving, sponsorship, digital campaigns, and donor stewardship.
  • Commitment to an inclusive, anti-oppressive, and anti-racist workplace culture.
  • Opportunities to help shape fundraising strategies and contribute to long-term organizational sustainability.
