Job Description

Position Summary:

We are looking for a Software Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, problem-solving business environment. You will work across a range of technologies to solve business challenges through business applications, web sites, and web services. Your scope covers new feature development, application enhancements, and production support.


Key Responsibilities Include:

Build and Maintain Applications and Systems:

  • Build full stack application features to an approved design
  • Write production code in C#, .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, and React
  • Enhance and maintain existing and legacy applications
  • Diagnose and fix production issues on assigned applications
  • Implement security and compliance requirements in all code
  • Provide production support

  • Create and Maintain Quality Documentation:

  • Write and maintain unit tests for all new code
  • Write clear code comments for all new code
  • Write technical documentation for assigned work

  • Embrace the use of AI to support the software engineering process:

  • Use AI tools for coding, debugging, and documentation
  • Review, test, and understand AI-generated code before committing it; own it as your own work

  • Product Delivery and Collaboration:

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines
  • Support deployment activities
  • Confirm requirements upfront
  • Review teammates' pull requests
  • Participate in technical design discussions
  • Estimate assigned tasks and report progress accurately

  • Qualifications:


  • BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field/degree from an accredited college, plus 2+ years of relevant experience. Equivalent work experience may be substituted.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    Basic Technical Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of hands-on development experience building applications using C#, .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, using React or a similar UI framework
  • Experience building and consuming APIs (REST, SOAP, WCF)
  • Working knowledge of relational databases: data modeling, writing queries, and data access through Entity Framework or another ORM
  • Git experience: feature branches, pull requests, resolving merge conflicts
  • Experience with agile development and scrum/Kanban methodologies
  • Daily use of AI coding assistants, including effective prompting and critical review of generated code
  • Experience across the full development life cycle: requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact with all members of AAMVA staff
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to multi-task in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and changing business requirements

  • Preferred Technical Qualifications:

  • Experience building front-end applications with React
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including firewalls and load balancing
  • Understanding of cloud deployment topologies for APIs and SPAs
  • Microsoft Azure: App Service, Functions, Service Bus, Blob Storage
  • .NET Framework for legacy maintenance
  • Experience designing and producing testable applications with appropriate unit tests coverage
  • Working understanding of object-oriented principles, design patterns (including resiliency patterns), interface driven programming, and dependency injection
  • Experience with non-relational databases, such as document or key-value stores
  • Financial or billing application experience

    Salary Range: $114,134 to $172,985 Annually
