Manager of Volunteer Services
Location: Greenville, Texas, at the Foundation's headquarters; travel as required
Position Summary
The Manager of Volunteer Services will lead the Foundation's strategy to recruit, engage, and retain the volunteers who make VEX Robotics competitions and programs possible. The Manager will build sustainable pipelines of judges, referees, technical professionals, educators, university students, corporate employees, alumni, and community members; anticipate event needs; and help Event Partners secure qualified, prepared volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a year-round volunteer recruitment and engagement strategy for competitions, Signature Events, regional championships, the VEX Robotics World Championship, and Foundation programs.
- Build volunteer pipelines through corporations, universities, professional associations, civic organizations, schools, alumni networks, and community groups.
- Partner with event and competition teams to forecast needs by role, location, and timeline, with targeted plans for specialized and high-need positions.
- Provide Event Partners with recruitment tools, outreach templates, role descriptions, communications, and proven practices.
- Coordinate with training teams to connect volunteers with orientation, certification, and role-specific preparation.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records covering interests, experience, availability, certifications, geography, and participation history.
- Create volunteer ambassador, recognition, feedback, and advancement programs that strengthen engagement and retention.
- Track recruitment, placement, readiness, retention, satisfaction, and shortages; develop contingency plans for critical events.
- Ensure recruitment practices comply with Foundation policies, student-safety requirements, screening procedures, and applicable law.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred, with experience in volunteer recruitment, community engagement, talent acquisition, nonprofit programs, or event staffing.
- Demonstrated success building recruitment pipelines and relationships with corporations, universities, associations, or community organizations.
- Strong project-management, communication, organization, relationship-management, and follow-through skills.
- Experience with volunteer-management, CRM, event-management, or related technology systems preferred.
- Sound judgment, professionalism, integrity, and commitment to student safety; ability to work in Greenville and travel as required, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Measures of Success
Growth and geographic reach of active volunteers; positions filled by deadline; readiness and certification rates; repeat participation and retention; strength of corporate, university, alumni, and community pipelines; Event Partner and volunteer satisfaction; reduced last-minute shortages; and accurate reporting.
