JOB TITLE: Visitor Services Assistant II, Mill City Museum
OPEN TO: This job is open only to current Mill City Museum staff.
LOCATION: Mill City Museum, 704 South 2nd St., Mpls, MN 55401
COMPENSATION: Typical starting rate $20.48 - $22.37 hourly.
STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 1560 annual hours) position. Approximately 30 hours per week. Must be able to work a varied schedule of 4 shifts a week Wednesday-Sundays. Schedule is dependent on museum hours of operation, but typically 9am-4:15pm or 9am-5:15pm. Museum hours are 10am-4pm Wed-Fri and 10am-5pm Sat-Sun. Some evenings or non-traditional hours may be needed for special events and programming.

Some evenings or non-traditional hours may be needed for special events and programming.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to provide leadership and high quality customer service, while performing a variety of duties related to admissions, the retail store, and visitor information in the Visitor Services area of Mill City Museum, with occasional support to the Interpretive Program.
SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Perform admission duties and provide visitor information with a consistent high level of customer service and comprehensive knowledge of the site; 2) Sell merchandise and provide high-level operational assistance in the museum store; 3) Provide operational support and mentorship as a lead visitor services team member; 4) Provide occasional support to the Interpretive Program; 5) Receive, welcome and orient visitors to the museum.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of cash handling and retail or customer service experience.
Demonstrated high quality, positive customer service skills.
Strong organizational and personal computer skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse public in a positive and friendly manner, in person and over the phone.
Demonstrated ability to independently problem solve and respond to visitor concerns with patience, empathy, and grace.
Availability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends, evenings, and holidays, as necessary.
Ability to work independently, under supervision, and as part of a team.
Average math and computer skills.
Ability to troubleshoot software, hardware, and point-of-sale issues.
Strong understanding of retail and money handling procedures.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to bend, crouch, kneel to move merchandise and perform light cleaning duties.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience with ticketing and/or point of sale software.
Previous experience mentoring, coaching, training, and providing work direction for staff or volunteers in a visitor-focused setting.
Retail sales and admissions experience in a museum/historic site
Experience in museum or site interpretation, theater or storytelling.
Foreign language skills.
Knowledge of retail display and marketing techniques.
Knowledge of Minnesota and area history.
