Position Summary:
Summary

Coordinates and supports a multi-institution, federally funded research initiative advancing open-source agentic artificial intelligence and research cyberinfrastructure. Serves as the central point of coordination across collaborating institutions, evaluating project activities for conformance to established goals, milestones, and sponsor requirements. Responsible for the overall success of assigned project workstreams through identification, coordination, and mobilization of internal and external resources, and through diligent tracking of deliverables, budgets, and reporting obligations to the funding agency.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and supports a multifaceted, externally sponsored research project of intermediate complexity spanning multiple partner institutions and distributed teams.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and maintenance of project plans, objectives, and short- and long-range planning; develops and implements processes that support accomplishment of established project goals and sponsor milestones.
  • Administers, oversees, and coordinates project activities across collaborating sites, ensuring alignment of timelines, dependencies, and deliverables among distributed personnel.
  • Gathers facts, researches issues, analyzes potential solutions, and compares alternatives in terms of cost, time, and availability of resources; recommends a course of action to project leadership.
  • Researches, evaluates, and analyzes project requirements and processes; prepares and generates reports, including sponsor progress reports, milestone updates, and internal status summaries.
  • Implements project plans as designed; monitors project status and resource utilization and recommends changes to improve team effectiveness across institutions.
  • Coordinates and tracks project budgets as assigned, monitoring expenditures against the award, supporting subaward and procurement processes, and coordinating with sponsored-projects and fiscal staff.
  • Supports compliance and reporting obligations to the funding agency, including the preparation and timely submission of annual and final reports, data-management and open-science deliverables, and documentation for external advisory and review activities.
  • Coordinates project meetings, design reviews, and the annual program meeting; prepares agendas, tracks action items, and maintains shared documentation and collaboration tools.
  • Represents the project and the University to partner institutions, sponsor program staff, and external organizations, as well as to internal departments and divisions.
  • May supervise the work of student employees, temporary staff, or other assigned personnel.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in the area of expertise.
  • Strategic planning and project management skills within a higher-education environment.

Qualifications
  • Experience coordinating sponsored research projects, particularly federally funded awards (e.g., NSF, NIH, DOE), including familiarity with award terms, reporting cycles, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting multi-institution or distributed teams, including subaward and partner coordination.
  • Familiarity with research computing, cyberinfrastructure, data science, or software-development environments, and with the practices of open-source and reproducible research.
  • Proficiency with collaboration, documentation, and project-tracking tools (e.g., shared repositories, issue trackers, version control such as Git).
  • Experience with budget monitoring and financial reporting in a university sponsored-projects context.
