GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the store manager, responsible for directing all operations of the branch yard.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:*
- Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with primary emphasis on providing efficient, courteous, and friendly service to all building professional and retail customers.
- Responsible for friendly, accurate and timely customer service for yard pick-ups and deliveries.
- Responsible for accurate control of inventory assets at time of receipt, during storage and handling and at time of pick-up or delivery to meet store and company objectives.
- Responsible for scheduling all yard staff to insure optimum customer service and meet store and company objectives.
- Responsible for accurate documentation of all yard transactions.
- Oversees and directs regular cycle counts to insure inventory accuracy.
- Interacts with all other store departments to meet store and company objectives.
- Interacts with customers to insure accurate and timely delivery and pick up.
- Oversees security and maintenance of all equipment assigned to the yard.
- Oversees security and maintenance of all yard facilities.
- Insures yard compliance with safety and fire regulations.
- Maintains high housekeeping standards.
- Interacts with branch manager to insure appropriate inventory levels are maintained to meet store and company objectives.
- Oversees accurate and timely unloading of all vendor deliveries to the store.
- Oversees accurate and timely inter-branch inventory transfer shipments to meet company customer service and physical inventory objectives.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Remains aware of coverage in the yard and participates when additional coverage is needed.
- Cooperates with and supports other branches to meet company objectives.
- Oversees computer system adjustments required to maintain an accurate yard inventory.
- Maintains positive relations with suppliers and vendors
- Performs other related duties as required.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Duties Require knowledge of the building supply and retail hardware industries, inventory receiving and logistics, equivalent to completion of two to four years of college and 2-5 years of progressively responsible related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have the ability to safely operate a forklift and appropriate certifications if required by law.
- Must have good math skills and the ability to coordinate the efforts of and train others.
- Must have the ability to meet strict deadlines and must be flexible to handle the needs of the department.
- Must be able to anticipate problems and resolve them.
- Knowledge of hazardous items and proper techniques for clean up in case of a spill.
- Knowledge of location of all safety devices in and around the store premises.
- Well organized with the initiative necessary to achieve store goals.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to establish positive public relations for the store; and to interact with a wide variety of people.
- Basic knowledge of people management, including inter-personal skills and constructive methods for providing feedback and motivation.
- Good working knowledge of personal computers in a networked environment including knowledge of accounting, inventory control and related software applications.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Directly responsible for supervision of all yard personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with White’s Lumber, Inc. policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Frequent periods spent working in non-office environment, including indoor and outdoor retail spaces.
- May use computer keyboards requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
- Utilizes proper precautions when handling hazardous materials.
- Periods of standing and walking.
- Physical Demands include lifting, standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching above shoulders, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch, communicate, use foot or feet to operate machine, and operate powered industrial vehicles.
