About This Position

  • Job Summary
    • The Coder Level 1 works under the direction of the Manager of Health Information Management via the Coding Coordinator. Performs accurate and timely coding and abstracting of all outpatient medical records. Assures proper diagnoses are documented on patient charts. Maintains policies and procedures and participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Regulatory Requirements
    • Hybrid - must live within commuting distance.
    • High school graduate or GED.
    • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT classification systems. Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) credential is required or must be obtained within six months of hire.
    • Prior EMR experience (experience with Meditech strongly preferred).
    • Demonstrated expertise working with multiple cross-functional departments is also preferred.
  • Language Skills
    • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
    • Additional languages preferred.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.

    • Actively participates in Service Excellence program activities.
    • Demonstrates understanding of support of Service Excellence.
    • Strives to develop skills and techniques to improve and maintain customer service.
    • Serves our customers and provides high quality service with care and courtesy. Aims to exceed the expectations of customers.

    • Supports the goals of the department and Mary Rutan Hospital.
    • Must be able to work remotely as a self motivated individual and be able to work independently.
    • Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to effectively anticipate and respond to issues as needed in a dynamic work environment.
    • Maintain a flexible customer service approach and orientation that emphasizes service satisfaction and quality.
