Function of Position:
This role reports directly to the Dean of Academic Foundations. The Inspiring Start Grant Coordinator will oversee two (2) programs funded by the ESL Federal Credit Union grant: Strong Foundations (SF) and Pathways to MCC.
Pathways to MCC, our Gateway to College model, attracts high school dropouts to take 24 college credits to apply for and receive their New York State high school equivalency (HSE) diploma. Students must be 16 years of age, a resident of Monroe County, and out of high school for at least one year to qualify. This means homeschooled students and students who attend non-accredited charter schools, as well as typical high school stop outs qualify.
Strong Foundations, our CUNY Start/CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) model, allows students to heavily remediate in ESOL, mathematics, and English prior to college matriculation without starting their financial aid clock.
*This is a temporary, grant funded position that may be renewed annually contingent upon availability of grant funding and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Recruit students for both programs
- Works directly with students to fill out MCC application and other applicable paperwork
- Discussing with students the benefits of the programs, working with community organizations to pull from their participants and working with high schools to get lists of stop out students to contact, contact potential students
- Partners with Admissions to gain lists of prospective Pathway's students who show interest from the marketing outreach and contact them regularly, oversee Advocates to do this
- Participate in Admissions/recruitment events to promote the program and increase retention
- Daily contact with Admissions on students who place into TRS and ESOL and contact student
Onboard students in both programs
- Continuously and proactively follow up with students who are not completing onboarding tasks.
- Advise students of the program components, assist with scheduling, oversee Advocates who also assist students
- Lead diagnostic testing/interviewing of Strong Foundations students to confirm basic skills to succeed in the program
- Help students make Advocate appointments, introduce students to their assigned Advocate
- Ensure grant transfers are made for books and class materials (e.g. laptops)
- Ensure grant payments are made to student accounts to cover fees/tuition
- Visit Strong Foundations classes to offer student support, oversee Advocates doing this
Oversee advising, registration, wraparound support and connect students with services
- Coordinate campus support from various offices to support students academically and personally so that they may successfully complete the programs and transition to full matriculation to MCC.
- Implement a high touch advising plan
- Survey students each semester to see how they prefer to connect with Advocates, how well the students feel supported, etc. to improve service
- Support students exiting programs to support becoming fully matriculated
- Make student referrals to non-credit or community programs, when appropriate.
Oversee all staffing involved with programs, including those whom do not report directly to the Coordinator.
- Onboarding Advocates - program advisement, using the college systems, etc.
- Assign caseloads of students to Advocates and self
- Ensuring timesheets for tutors, advocates, etc. are accurate and are submitted in a timely manner
- Progress tracking, up to and including contacting program students' faculty to ensure they are attending class, doing assignments, etc.
- Ensuring the Strong Foundations courses are loaded into Banner and the faculty and tutors are hired and onboarded
Coordinate with campus offices on issues related to and needs of both programs
- Attends and participates in monthly grant meetings
- Attends and participates in Foundation meetings pertaining to the grant
- Attends and participates in ESL site visits
Develop and implement seamless processes related to both programs
Point of contact for internal and external stakeholders
- Maintains high communication and partnerships, mainly with Admissions, the Grants office, Grants Accounting, the academic department contact for Strong Foundations, and the Dean
- Partners with Dean on budget issues to ensure funding is supporting student needs
Track student progress in both programs and assist in creating the annual report on program outcomes
- Write, in collaboration with the Dean, the annual grant report to ESL (narrative and data collection)
- Respond to Starfish flags, oversee Advocate responses
- Proactively reach out to program students to track their progress and address issues
Provide program updates for internal and external stakeholders, as needed
May teach Strong Foundations' classes, if interested and qualified
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Earned bachelor's degree in a related field from a regionally-accredited higher education institution
- Three years of work experience in education at the postsecondary or secondary level
- Experience working with a diverse, at-risk population
- If teaching Strong Foundations, must go through the adjunct hiring process
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned master's degree or higher in a related field from a regionally-accredited higher education institution
- Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position starts at $52,000 and may increase depending on these mentioned factors.
