Job Summary
The Union Heavy Duty Repair (HDR) Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty equipment and vehicles, with a specialization in Caterpillar (CAT) engines. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical components, and hydraulic systems, along with expertise in troubleshooting and resolving complex engine-related issues. The mechanic will collaborate with a team of professionals to ensure the efficient operation and safe performance of heavy equipment
Essential Functions
- Perform inspections, diagnose malfunctions, and repair heavy-duty equipment, focusing on CAT engines.
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks, to ensure optimal engine performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex engine-related issues using specialized diagnostic equipment and technical manuals.
- Collaborate with the Parts Manager to identify and order necessary parts and components for repairs.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Document all repairs, maintenance activities, and inspections accurately for record-keeping purposes
- Comply with union regulations, company policies, and industry standards to promote a safe and productive work environment.

Required Education, Experience, and Technical Knowledge
- Candidates must have the legal right to work in the US without employer sponsorship.
- Union Journeyman Heavy Duty Repair (HDR) Mechanic with 10+ years in Operating Engineers Local 3.
- Maintain a Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B).
- Based in the Bay Area. Preferably in the South Bay.
- Experience with CAT engines. Specifically with scrapers, excavators, blades, and dozers.
