Director - Engineering & Maintenance

Job Summary
The director will provide leadership, direction and management oversight for continuous improvement of the standard Engineering and Maintenance operating model within the facility. Leads all operational coordination for the Engineering and Maintenance department. Provides staff leadership, makes sound business decisions in support of the hospital’s mission; and supports the hospital’s vision to be a leader in providing the best facility for patient care, safety, service and value. Manages the day-to-day operations of the department; ensures a consistently high level of cleanliness and appearance to patients, visitors and staff.

Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions

  • Responsible for overseeing the development of a department orientation program for all new employees to ensure new employees know the guidelines if their job and what is expected of them.
  • Ensures that new employees receive department orientation in six weeks.
  • Conducts scheduled meetings with Engineering and Maintenance department staff to problem solve and continuous education in management training.
  • Cooperates with other department managers in accomplishing departmental objectives.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all management information.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and be example of a high standard of quality performance.
  • Responsible for the overall quality of work within the department.
  • Reviews work schedule with Engineering and Maintenance services team to ensure adequate coverage for quality performance.
  • Institutes changes in technique guidelines for more efficient operation.
  • Ensures that employees are being supervised and directed on the how, when, and why of completing assigned tasks by qualified and responsible supervisors.

  • Engineering
  • Coordinates the work of maintenance mechanics engaged in preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Performs a wide variety of facility, equipment, or related maintenance duties, demonstrating individual skill and proficiency.
  • Provides leadership to the team, including planning, goal setting, coordinating assignments, and maintains scheduling of work, holiday, vacation, and call schedules; encouragement to team members in work related decisions.
  • Ability to increase the technical and personal skills of team members, including but not limited to; formal maintenance shop team members, one-on-one sessions, off-site technical training, and other staff education as appropriate.
  • Performs written evaluations of staff performance, based on measurable date collection throughout the appraisal period and provides feedback to employees on work progress quality.
  • Ensures adherence to hospital, personnel, departmental, safety infection control, and other appropriate policies.
  • Maintains organizational systems for employees by making necessary changes to time clock-ins/outs, editing call-back, call-pay, and other time keeping processes.
  • Responsible for coding all bills to ensure proper reimbursement.
  • Help in maintaining Engineering and Maintenance monthly and yearly budgets.
  • Ability to coordinate and function as Project Manager for various hospital directed projects.
  • Supervises and oversees contractors scheduled to work duties and ensure they maintain Shannon value.
  • Responsible for tracking and maintaining due inspections, including but not limited to; fire sprinkler, fire pump, elevator, generator, boiler, and storage tank inspections.
  • Help keep hospitals in compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Leads construction delivery resources/team providing project guidance and direction to achieve project goals.
  • Implements communication plan for meetings and written reports/meeting minutes to keep client and project resources informed. Facilitates project meetings.
  • Tracks progress of each project against goals, objectives, approved budgets, approved timelines. Reports status and variances. Creates action plans to meet objectives, budget and schedule.
  • Implements change management routines to assess change requests, make recommendations, secure approvals, and issue change orders. Assesses change requests to determine impacts to scope, budget, schedule, quality and risk.
  • Demonstrates ability to identify risks, develop risk mitigation and contingency plans, and implement action plans to reduce or eliminate risks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Education

  • Required
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Preferred
    • Bachelor's degree in a related field

Experience

  • Required
    • Three years of experience in Engineering Services
  • Preferred
    • One year of experience in a Managerial role
