Position Summary
This position is responsible for coordinating administrative office services such as coordinating general business activities for themselves and others, appointment-setting, records control, process permits, and other administrative activities for the City of Peru Building Department. Interprets operating policies.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Interprets operating policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinate and implement general office services such as appointment-setting, records control, and other administrative activities.
- Receives, screens and directs telephone calls, assists walk-in customers, and provides basic information upon request. Processes incoming and outgoing mail for the department.
- Assists the Building Department personnel with processing paperwork and reports, correspondence, data entry and other clerical functions. Performs research and generates reports. Frequently files and retrieves documents.
- Issues and processes building and zoning permit applications. Records permits in permanent records. Notifies permit applicants of permit status. Tracks inspections for permit approval.
- Issues invoices for fees for permits, contractor registrations.
- Locate and compile information, format reports, graphs, tables, minutes, records and other sources of information for the Board of Building Appeals, the Planning Commission, and the Board of Zoning Appeals. Contacts Board and Commission members as needed. Ensures all proper notifications and public notices are published before meetings.
- Ensures all liens are properly recorded/released with the County Recorder office as required.
- Operate personal computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software.
- Use various software applications such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
- Exercise administrative judgment and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results impacting staff, costs, and/or quality of service within the functional area.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- High school diploma or GED (Two years college or equivalent work experience preferred)
- Three years of related experience or relevant coursework or office management.
- Ability to exchange non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of building codes and ordinances and related municipal policies and procedures.
- Skills in the use of office equipment and technology, including computers and related permitting software, and the ability to master new technology.
